Kodiak Special help...
« on: September 12, 2012, 03:57:00 AM »
Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've logged on (sounds like a confession) lots of work and taking care of the kids! I recently won an auction in the big site for a Kodiak special, looks like a 62, (2BC88) and I was hoping to send it to someone to have it refinished. I live in Spain and it would be very difficult to get any restoration done here so my idea was to get someone over there to have a look and then ship it over to me. All the folks on here have been great in every way, feel really privileged to be part of this community, even went hunting in Australia thanks to members I met on this site, my daughter has a bow donated to her by members of this site and many other kind acts and helpful info and advice, I am on a budget but have plenty of time, any advice or direction is very appreciated! And glad to be back browsing Pow-Pow!

If the bow is structurally sound and just needs a cleanup and simple re-finish, you could save yourself a couple hundred bucks by doing it yourself.

Several of the "pro's" have posted lots of info and tips on the process.  I know if I can do it, most anyone could.

Grab some steel wool, sandpaper and a couple cans of spray finish and go to work.  Good luck.

I've had Todd Hill/Copicasso refinish 2 1962 Kodiak Specials for me. Killer job and I couldn't be happier. He's very reasonably priced and pretty quick too. Now, he may need more time during hunting season. LOL
Give me your email and I'll email you some pics of the '62's he's refinished. I'll try to post some, but my photobucket acct has been closing on me seconds after I click on a pic. Something isn't right.

Thanks guys, my email address is [email protected], I am considering doing it myself but I have a tester I can try my hand on and would rather see this 62 done right by good hands!

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow. The '58 Kodiak Todd refinished for me is spectacular. I'll get pics of that too.

Thanks Mojo! Look great! I don't think mine is a 62 then... Looks more like a Super Kodiak or a Tamerlane shape, I will try to post pics. If I am not mistaken though aren't bows from late 50's to 1964 not reliable for date of manufacture through serial number?
