Estate Find - Indian Archery
« on: November 21, 2012, 07:34:00 AM »
As my brother and sisters were going thru my mom's estate we came across this very vintage Indian Archery archery set. We first thought the case was a nice piece of lumber.

When we saw the latches, we opened it and found this.

It has everything from the original kit except for 3 arrows. The tab and armguard look like they have never been used. The "handbook", title "Straight Talk on a Bent Subject" has a copyright date of 1928.

The bow is marked 32# and has the original hemp string. I strung it up and everything looks pretty good.

I suspect this set is 75 - 80 years old. What do you think?

would love to have that...you are indeed a lucky man.  Any idea what the history or story might be behind it?

Don't know much about it. I know my mom said she remembered doing some archery at school when she was younger, I suspect it was high school age. She also had a selfbow that she said a neighbor had made for her. I came across that about 5 years ago; cleaned it up and refinished some cedar arrows for her. That bow I have hanging on the wall, as a way of remembering her connection with archery.

I have no information about this set. It was never mentioned and was just stored up in the beams of the basement.
