56" Kodiak Deluxe..Collectors Advice Needed
« on: December 12, 2012, 01:59:00 PM »
I picked up this 56" Kodiak Deluxe the other day. The clear coat on the bow is peeling off. There are two holes on the limb face from a added sight. There is a small crack in the throat of the grip in the I beam. The bow is a good shooter and straight. Very little stress and no other damage. My question to you collectors is in preparing to sell the bow. Do I repair and refinish or leave it the way it was found?

I would leave it alone if selling are your intentions. Myself as a buyer/ Bear collector would rather receive a piece in original condition, and make my own decision about repairing. I believe that you will not get the return on having it repaired versus selling without touching it. That would be my two cents.

Ohhh, and congrats on such a nice find! If finances were a bit better right now, I think I would try and take it off your hands.

The condition of the bow is actually not bad at all. I would sell it or keep as is. A Very Lucky Find for You!!  :)

Guess I'm from a different school of thought than most here.

If your intentions are selling it, I'd advise at least repairing the crack and probably a complete refinish. Whoever buys it, is likely gonna hang it on the wall. Doubt it's gonna be someone's "go-to" bow.

It might as well look good while its hanging there.

I might not give everyone the same advice but I've seen your work Mike and I'm confident it will look brand new when you're done.

I think I'd have to agree with Daryl on this one.  Especially if you don't have too much tied up in it.

Despite the fact that the bow is a K deluxe in a rare length a serious collector won't spend a lot to buy a bow with holes so you might as well have it refinished; looks like it can be a sound specimen given that the crack is an easy fix. The holes will require some skills to repair properly, and that finish is not doing you any favors if you are looking to sell.

looks like that crack was poorly filled with some kind of reddish glue [urac-maybe]--maybe not that easy to fix!!that must have been a valuable sight-hehe-seeing how they bolted on with a 1/4"lag bolt!!
looks challenging !!worth it to me!
    good luck
Mike
