Got me a Red Wing Hunter!
« on: December 14, 2012, 08:59:00 PM »
I got me a Red Wing Hunter from Cyclic-Rivers!  What a shooter!  It's a 60 lb, 58 incher!  I'm not sure of the age, but it's in near mint condition.  It feels awesome in hand and has a smooth draw through out.  I might take it out in the morning. (I've had it a week, & shot it every day)

Thanks Charlie!

Those Wing bows are fantastic superbly built bows.
Bob Lee knew what he was doing and I am very fond of the vintage Thunderbird Model.
Bob is still very active and attends lots of traditional shoots.
If able to attend one of them, you might wanna have Mr. Lee sign your bows. He's a very nice guy and very happy to autograph anything related to him. He is the last of the
50s -60s era bow makers around and a great bowhunter with lots of stories to share.
Grab him a cup of coffee and sit with him. He's a cool bird or should I say..........Wing..

Ya know Phil, I gotta get a little more "sociable" when it comes to archery.  I've been shooting recurves for over 20 years, & I've never attended an event!

Sean, you should certainly try and attend some of the shoots.
You will have lots of fun, meet some great people and the traditional archery environment alone is really something.
Some of these shoots have lots of bowyers and traditional archery dealers, swap meets, ect.....

Denton hill, whittingham, Baltimore just to name a few are great.
Make time, you won't regret it.

I've been shooting a LH Red Wing Hunter of 41# and hope to get back to my RH 47# RWH when my finger heals up.  They are outstanding bows for certain.

I recently picked up a real nice 55#  one from '64-65,  Those early ones with the narrow tips are extra hard to find, but worth the effort.

Working weekends makes it tough to hit shoots & events.  I tried to make Denton this year, but I couldn't get off.  Im going to try to hit some in '13!

Bob Lee sure knew about limb design. The old bows shot great, and the new ones shoot great too.

Me too, Philip. I have both a 46# and a 55# Thunderbird and really like them. Very smooth draw and excellent cast.

Wilco, Philip.

Sean ... you have a great bow, one of the best designs from the good ol' days of modern archery. We all have our favorite bows and some may prefer one brand name or bowyer over another but everyone agrees that Bob Lee's 58" Red Wing Hunter is a timeless design. There are newer bows and even a few prettier bows out there but none better for its intended purpose -- making meat.

Your 60# bow can do it all. Take care of it, shoot it often, and pass it along when the time is right.

Good Luck!

Glad you like it Sean.

That one has a beautiful piece in the riser. I wish I wasn't such a sissy or I would be shooting it.

Good luck with it, glad you are shooting it over any widows that may have come recently      ;)
