1959 Bear Kodiak
« on: March 06, 2013, 11:19:00 AM »
Ok, I've finally decided to sell my 1959 Kodiak but I don't have any idea of its value.  Its still has the original leather and bear feather rest and the bow is in very, very good shape. Limb tips are intact and the limbs are straight.

Here are the numbers on it:
Serial number:  AA051    56" and 55#. I took a closer look at the riser which I thought was shedua but very well could be rosewood with a very dark patena.  The glass is brown and the lams are maple. I've had it for along time and did hunt with it so it has a little pine pitch on it but the finish is in excellent shape with no major scratches.  The only place I'm going to advertise it is here on Tradgang.

At 55# and 56" it should be worth a pretty penny even in these economic times. Myself, I don't have a pretty penny right now. I'm sure someone will come along that has a better idea of value.

Okay Jack....maybe you and I between us can come up with some pretty pennies (although we no  longer make pennies in Canada) and scoop all of our Bear collecting buddies   :goldtooth:

Need a bid site here, you set your min price and see what the market will pay.
May you have interesting times

Based on your reported condition and the rarity of the 56" My guess is over $500 to $700 but the market is soft right now so even getting the lower end is a stretch.
The higher draw weight is also a plus. Also lots of bows are coming out of the closets lately and competition from new products is very strong.

Just last year I bought a 1959 50# 60" Kodiak for $800. The bow was in great shape overall with orginal grip and side plate. I may have paid a bit much but it was worth it.

I'm looking for an all original r/h '59 K  56" if you still have it.
I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.

Wasn't fast enough on this one.

The bow arrived yesterday and it is a very nice example of a 56" Kodiak

It is just as Ric described, you could definitely hunt with it-especially since it is 55#. And it is nicer than the 56" I can now list on the unmentionable site!

That is a great looking bow Bjorn, thanks for the pics.

Is it 55# at 26" or at 28"?

Aren't the 56" bows limited in draw length (per Bear's recommendations) or could they be safely pulled to 29"?

Nice addition!

Hey Brad! This one is marked @ 28" and I have a 45# also marked @ 28";  I hear many are 26" and I have a 56" 1958 marked @ 24". Oh yeah Bob Morley's 56" bow is 63 @ 24.
I'll trade 'ya something for your Gen 1 Tbird!   :bigsmyl:

Hi Bjorn!  Bob Morley's bow is a beast, especially at 24"!

As much as I like the 56" Kodiaks, I can't help but think that I'd be wincing and praying with every shot...

I had a feeling the bow would look like that right from the first time I contacted Ric...just wish I had a shorter draw length...not gonna mess with one of those at 30 inches...one day I will have a 64 inch one or even better a 64 inch 1960 Kodiak
