Red Wing Custom
« on: March 22, 2013, 11:01:00 AM »
I bought this bow from a buddy last summer. I'm guessing it's mid 60's. Any information would be welcomed. Thanks

1965, it has a bubinga handle and a great shooter.

If it is too light for you it is perfect for me:)

Kelly, Thanks for the info.I have to hold on to it for a while, it was trusted to me in a way...I don't know. It's from a good friend and he moved far away, still a connection there with the bow. He said he had never seen a "Custom" before, are they common?

Its a Red Wing Hunter by Wing before being taken over by AMF or Head Ski which makes it much more desirable to collectors. Great bows built during the Bob Lee era. Do not use anything other than B-50 string on that vintage bow, some will say you can with padded loops but I wouldn't recommend it. They are smooth on the draw for sure. Congrats.

Regarding your Red Wing Custom logo they used to make the Red Wing Hunter in a length of 62" and it was by custom order. Since this is a 58" length and one that they made quite a few of in 1965/66 my guess is someone grabbed the wrong decal.

OK now that makes sense. After starting this thread I was  coming to the conclusion that "Custom" was one the models offered. How many bows did Wing have in it's line in '65? Thanks

I suppose maybe 10 but they have never had any with custom in its name-they did have some with Pro in the name like Red Wing Pro and Vantage Pro-these were all the Slim Line models designed by Bill Stewart when Bob Lee hired him away from Bear Archery.
