Meguiar's Scratch X for old Kodiak?
« on: August 26, 2013, 03:25:00 PM »
A question for the vintage Bear experts...

I recently picked up a 62 Kodiak and wanted to go over it with a rubbing compound.

I have some Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0 but when I Googled it I found some vintage guitar people saying not to use it because it contains silicone.

Does anyone know if it's OK for a bow and/or can anyone recommend a good rubbing compound that works on minor scratches?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Blackhawk. Any idea how to buy it? I tried to find it on the auction site and sent him a message from there but no luck.

I have used the Meguire's scratch X on a number of bows. Keep working it by hand with a soft cloth until it begins to shine. When the whole bow is done I wipe it with some Pledge. By the way, wipe the pledge on your bowstring where it contacts the recurve and it will not stick and make noise when you draw.

Forgot to mention. I buy the Meguire's at Fleet Farm type stores, but you should find it in discount stores or auto parts stores.

I've had good luck with Turtle Wax polishing compound.

I've used Meguiare's Scratch X with good results but found Meguiare's Ultimate Compound works just as well and is less money. You can find it at Walmart.
