Damon Howatt Diablo ID help ~ pictures added
« on: January 17, 2014, 09:42:00 AM »
Hi all,
I'm hoping to learn a little more about a bow I just bought......mostly just how old it is.
It is a Damon Howatt Diablo with the serial # EDS 4780 L54". I know the 54" is the length and the L is left handed. Also, it is 71# @28". Having read a few posts about DH bows, I'm guessing the first 4 is either 1954 or 1964. Other clues are the black glass and it appears to be rosewood.
Any help is appreciated!

Rick, maybe you can help me too.

It`s a Hunter.  H019392-62"

It`s time for me to go to an ophthalmologist.
I guess looking in the pc monitor had made my eyes more older as the tooth of time. In the daylight the lettering looks different for me as yesterday in the night. Like so many others.

I am not a Howatt expert by any means. I would say early 1960's based on glass color and markings.

I think the bow was made in 1962, but I do not know.

Great looking bow, and I bet it's a good shooter.

Somebody in the know will come along soon, and tell you more...

If it was from the 50's the serial number etc would be stamped into the wood in the sight window. That much I do know.

Herder, your Hunter is a '61 or '62.  1960 and earlier Hunters hadn't any laminations on the riser, you can see a picture of a 1960 Hunter in the Howatt ad in the following thread;

 http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=14;t=006186#000000

The '59 Hunter had a riser shaped completely different with a flat spot on the belly above the grip.

My guess is 1961...

Before I asked here I had been looking myself for the Year of construction for a while. I had read a thread almost 3 years ago, but not right.

In the thread L. H. says: if it has a "MAMBA HUNTER" decal it is a 1958. if it has Just a hunter decal then probably it is a 1959, the first year we made a Howatt hunter.

Thanks for your help!

I think it's a '61.
We are all here because we are not all there.
