Bear Bow Questions
« on: January 27, 2014, 10:47:00 AM »
I bought a bear Target Bow off a guy yesterday. It is 69" and says Tamerlane on the bow. It has sights and came in a nice case. What can you tell me. Nice condition.

Thanks, Randy

That was the premier target bow from Bear which was introduced around 1963.  Those that I have seen have remarkable wood or phenolic, and lots of it, making it a very stable and accurate bow.  Most were close to 66-70" with weights usually under 40#.  I've had an eye out for a 64" closer to 50# but find they are really scarce.  Values can be all over the place, but most nice ones in good to excellent condition tend to go for under $300.

Lon pretty much nailed it, Bears top target Recurve. there were some years where it was offered in a longer length (72") and a year where it was offered in a Blonde model. I am always on the lookout for a nice early one...

I agree also about cost, 300 a bit more maybe a bit less, all about condition.

There's a drop dead mint one on the big site up to $500 right now.

I just got a Zebrawood Polar from my father in law from what appears to be 1962 (haven't checked my catalogues yet) that has an I-beam riser.  Great shape and just need to put a string on it. 66" and 37#.  Should be a fun range bow for the summer.
