Fred Bear's Personal Bow
« on: January 30, 2014, 09:28:00 PM »
I would like to share this item with my fellow Bear collectors/ Enthusiasts on Tradgang. I have just come across a rare find this week out of Michigan, and very grateful to finally be the new owner of one of Fred's own bows. The bow was made in the 30's in Fred's garage, and he used it for competition. On page 68 of Mr. Krolls book " The Biography of an Outdoorsman" you can find a picture of Fred drawing the bow in front of a 1930's Ford. Please enjoy viewing the pictures that I have been sent by a great fellow who picked the bow up for me. More to come when it arrives safely home. Please feel free to share other personal items of Fred's on this topic as it would be very nice to see this topic light up like a little Museum as we can't all visit those out there now with such great distance or whatever life brings to keep from travel.

This is a spear that belonged to Fred Bear.It was given to a Leo Schwartz as a gift from Fred.Frank Scott told me Fred had a large collection of spears.Frank said he thought Leo traveled around & photographed archery events.I would love to get a picture of this. The lady that I purchased it from said there was a picture of it somewhere.

Bob Blevins is a good friend of mine.  He showed me that bow a couple of years ago in his basement and I took some photos of it back then.

Jon,
I already have had some nice conversations with Bob recently, and always hung up in Awe. Bob told me stories about Fred Bear that I never heard, and to have someone who was there tellin it. Wow!  The camp is the reason that he parted with this bow. State required some upgrades this year. I think that Bob could get a lot more if he put himself out there for the camp, but as I am sure you know; Bob is a very humble man. I was by Bob to go hunting, and plan on it in 2015 if all goes well.

Ode to Valhalla  (from The 13th Warrior)

Lo, there do I see my father.
Lo, there do I see my mother.
And my sister and my brother
Lo, there do I see the line of my people
Back to the beginning.
Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them
In the halls of Valhalla
Where the brave may live forever.
