It's funny because Copicasso and I were just discussing this the other day. I'm looking for another 1958 Kodiak, in 64" and 30-40lbs because I love my 1958's so much.
I have a 60" 1958 that's 37lbs and a 64" marked 44lbs, but draws more like 40. Todd Hill refinished my 64"'er and it's magazine cover worthy.
I just mentioned to Todd like yesterday that if the standard 1958 didn't have that white glass, it'd be the Kodiak everyone wanted, like the '59's, 60's and 62's.
I like 64" and have nice 1957, 1958 and 1960 in 64". With the 1958, it seems like you look right down the arrow and it consistently is the best shooter, for me.
Now, at least on my 64" 1958, the shelf sits high above my hand. From the top of my hand to the shelf rug is a full inch and the depth of the shelf is 3/4". Now, this particular bow may have those particular specs, but I really like it.
After my shoulder surgery recovery, I can finally shoot these bows again and I fully hope to be hunting with low 40's come next Fall.
Before I saw this thread, I'd kind of made up my mind that I was going to start the deer season with the 64" 1958, because it's shooting so well. (Although a 37lb 1957 I got from Bearbowman is in the running too) I'd done a lot of searching online, and in this forum, on 1958 Kodiak's and there just isn't a lot there. Nor is there the praise that's worthy of the 1958's.
As far as the white glass, just think of all the poplar, aspen, birch and beech saplings in the woods. A deer staring at you with the bow up just isn't going to see that white. And as far as glare, well green and brown glass produces just as much glare if the sun hits it right.
Todd Hill has a '58 for sale and he's got another 64" 1958 that he's going to scale and I may nab it if it comes in at the lower 40's. I'll give him a call right now!
