Fred's Puma Hunters Pal
« on: February 21, 2015, 10:02:00 AM »
This knife Just came in today. I am a very happy camper. Hope to take a deer next season with my Deerslayer, and use this knife. Need to find a few of the Old Zwickey special order broadheads to use.

Three 4blds where found in 2003 in two separate finds , one had the patent number stamped on the blade, mine was without stamped patent on a Bear arrow and then four where found in 2012 , two stamped and two without. Extra one doesn't have stamp.

The two blade came in 100gr.144gr.168gr Not sure what ones I have extras in but have 1/2 doz of one of them on Bear arrows they came with. I'll look around here and see.

I know you don't want to loose one hunting so the 4bld is out for that reason.

Congratulations Shane - that is just plain cool.

I still have my Hunters Pal that I was given in 1969 by a family friend who infected me with the love of archery and an admiration for Fred Bear that has stuck with me ever since.

I didn't actually know until about 10 years later that it was one of the knives Fred used in his personal kit.

Thanks for posting, I always look forward to what you find out there.

Shane,

The Hunter's Pal looks like it is in new, unused condition. Have owned several of them in used condition since the 1960s, but have never had one with the rear of the edge being serrated.

What number is stamped on the top of the brass guard?

Picture of Fred and Bolo Robert made him. Also one of Fred and Henrietta when they visited.

Another neat item that Fred gave Robert's wife is the skull you can see on the table in 1975 Catalog where Fred has a pipe in his mouth.

Here is the Buckle mentioned in the letter. TJ Conrad has one, and John Grumley had one along with a few others.

Yes Craig, I will try again to get this so it can be read on here. The letter is a great part of the history on the knife. I can E mail if it helps.

WOW!!!!! Thank you for reposting that so I could read it. I cannot imagine having anything of Fred Bears let alone a knife from him. That's all very impressive. Thanks for sharing  ;)
