Got to shoot a Bear Super Mag
« on: April 13, 2015, 05:29:00 PM »
A guy at a 3-D shoot had a Bear Super Magnum 40# and 48"L. I've never shot one before so I shot about two dozen arrows out of it. My impression was it was not the fastest bow on the planet but was a very repeatable bow. Meaning I could plunk them into a softball sized target from 20 yards at will. It surprised me that it had no finger pinch and I'm used to shooting 60 and 62" bows.

I'd say one a little heavier would make a dandy blind bow. I guess Fred knew what he was doing.

My favorite bow for tight places is my little 1968 Super Mag.  It's a phenolic version so it has a little extra heft for it's 48# and 48".  I draw just short of 28" and agree with it's lack of pinch.  Actually, I shoot it as well as my 52" Kodiak  Magnum.

I believe Bill Stewart was the genius behind it when it came out in '66...and I wish I could hit softballs at 20yds, but basketballs are not safe.    :D

My wife says I "embellish" a lot. Let's say most of the arrows could hit a softball, not all. Ha ha.

A bit of embellishment never hurt anyone.
Father always said never let the facts ruin a good story. Let's just say that's how you remember it...

I had a beauty '67 Super K Mag that broke on me at full draw. I think about that bow a lot.

Reminds me of a Sandy Koufax-ism...

Always wanted to shoot a K-Super-Mag.  Nice to hear you had a good experience.
