Looking for Old Yew Longbow info!
« on: May 27, 2015, 08:42:00 PM »
Latest find, a nice 68" Old Yew bow made by someone who knew the craft. I'm thinking early 1900's. Horn nocks with what appears to be a recent crude replacement on the upper limb. Looks to be personalized with the initial S or a swastika symbol. "Prior to WW11 and the stigmatization by Hitler the symbol was viewed as Lucky or Auspicious". Truly Appreciate all comments and opinions...... Nice history here if it can be traced!

Thanks Bjorn!
That is what I thought as I got my first look. My hands were actually shaking a bit as I pulled the cash out to give to the guy. I won't tell you what the asking price was but I will say it was very cheap!! The guy had a long string on it and started to pull it back a bit... he was telling me it was a Navajo made bow...Jeez!!

Nice find Larry , cant tell you who made it, tips dont really look like any style that I recognize but the handle and strike plate are very familiar with several bowyers of the California area for the 20s and 30s.
One tip is cow horn , the other antler.

Not quite as cool John as a certain Osage, static tipped, snake skinned backed bow I see posted here occasionally!     :)

Nothing more has come up on this old classic but it sure looks nice hanging on the wall with a few others from the era...... If this one could only talk!

Thanks for All perspectives!!
