1953 Bear Polar String info needed
« on: January 06, 2016, 10:42:00 AM »
I picked up a nice 1953 Bear Polar 41#, 64". Looks to be in decent shape with all the original stickers and saddle grip.  What string will I need to use?

B50 or B55 about 60" long should do the trick.  You might have to twist it a bit to find your bows sweet spot.

General consensus is to stay with a string that has a bit of give in it at the shot so it won't cut the tips off of the bow.  Someone will be along directly and tell you something different about that.  Unless you are trying to get everything that you can out of the bow, the old rayon fat strings are cheap and safe.  They are slower but I am one of the guys that enjoys seeing a bit of arc in archery.  I buy the stuff for five or six dollars a spool and build strings for about a dollar apiece.

Thanks Brad. Agreed. Not looking to blaze an arrow. Want the bow to last another 63 yrs.

I was just doing some reading on the older Polars.  You may want to measure your bow to check how close it is to the marked length.  The thread that I was reading mentioned a 6 1/2 to 7" brace height using a 61" string.

It pretty much right on 64". Being it's a longbow, 3" shorter makes sense to me. Thanks.
