1966 kodiak ?
« on: December 18, 2016, 01:18:00 PM »
Hi y'all. I have what I think is a 1966 kodiak but according to. Another guy it's a 65. It has green glass and he told me all 66 kodiaks had brown glass only. I'm just curious. I bought  this bow from the original owner with all the original paperwork and receipts. He bought in September 8. 1966. So does anyone know if the 66 also had green glass or is it a 65? Thanks everyone

The '66 has brown glass, BUT it's one of the years you can tell by the serial.

Does it begin with a "6" or a "5" ?

The 5 denotes a 1965.  Since it sold so late in the next year, it was most likely leftover inventory the dealer wanted to sell before the '66 models came out.  Both are nice bows in all aspects.

Thanks Blackhawk for the info.  Good to know that. It is a great shooter either way but now I know the exact year.

A friend of mine bought a new 1995 Howatt Hunter from the Canadian distributor a couple of years ago...The bow had either been misplaced or forgotten...Not all new bows get sold in the year they were made
I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

I bought a brand new 1969 Polar from discount store in 1975. I spent over a year convincing the sporting goods manager that nobody was ever going to buy a left-handed 66" target recurve bow at the sticker price. When the store was going out of business, I got it for $35. It was a particularly handsome example of a well-designed bow with a lot of figuring in the shedua riser and "Arctic Gray" glass that had a hint of mossy green , like the 1962  Kodiak / Kodiak Magnum. Sold it to make room on the wall for a 1962 Polar.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.
