Serial Number
« on: May 26, 2017, 02:26:00 PM »
i've got someone asking me about a serial number on a Kodiak Magnum. It is either 266B2 or 26CB2 with an "X" stamped over it into the wood. He says it has a Gold coin which I'm assuming is a brass one. I was thinking it was a '62. Am I off base with that?

I would lean towards 1964 with a brass coin. 1962 would be pewter coin

I didn't think aging them was that reliable doing it by the Coin? My '59 has the wrong coin.
Any Idea what the "X" stamped over the number means?

1962 would be an all Rosewood riser and 1964 would have a stripe. My guess is 1964. The experts will argue all day about the X marking but it is generally assumed the bow had a factory defect. Usually a minor cosmetic flaw and thus was stamped and sold as is with no returns. I have seen them stamped with X's 2's and multiples of each.

Thanks, you've convinced me, it does have a stripe. And thanks about the X, I wasn't sure what it meant. I've had a couple with a star stamped on them and thought they were seconds.
