September 1937 issue of Ye Sylvan Archer Magazine.

Willis H. Barnes lived at 601 N. 4th Street in Sturgis, Michigan at the time.  His ad reads like this:

Manufacturer of Big Game Hunting Tackle

"Barnes Bows held up perfectly in the recent Byrd expedition to the south pole. It was Barnes bows and arrows that brought down the big cats of Mexico in the latest big game motion picture called, "the Jaguar's Trail," starring Dan Brennan Jr."

"Hunters, write for information concerning new design bows and arrows."

I'll look around for other ads.

Not to be confused with Capt. FS Barnes of Oregon yew bow fame ....

but I wonder if they were related.
When I first saw the 1931 Sylvan archer adv. for Barnes, with Earl Ullrich's ad. below, I thought it was FS Barnes, but he lived in Forest Grove, Or. not Mi. ?

Hope someone's gonna post some bow pics, pls.

Gibs bow is a Willis Barnes bow.  His maker's stamp is in cursive.  Besides, that bow has dips, F. S. Barnes bows didn't.   F.S. Barnes stamped his bows with block letters.
