Prayers for Dad...
« on: May 30, 2006, 11:22:00 AM »
Over the past 2 or so years, many here have uplifted their voices to pray for my dad's health and it' has kept me strong.

When Mom died last March, many of you were there on and off-line and the support was felt and the power of prayer kept me centered.

Once again, I ask for Dad to be kept in prayer.  This one is more painful than standard health issues, which are devastating in themselves.

Dad has succumbed to these Sweepstake scams and has sent out considerable amounts over the past 8 months in "subscription" fees, but it was from his spending money.

Now they got serious and he's made serious mistakes, lied to all of us, sent off considerable sums, given private information..forcing me to have to turn to outside legal help.

This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do and it could drive a wedge between my Father and I, but he will be left penniless and financially ruined if I don't take this action. My soul aches to see him so changed and go from the sweetest God-fearing man I've known to a vengeful and lying, mean-spirited person in a few short weeks... and hell-bent on destroying his financial security.--all for the promise of a million dollar prize!   :(

He doesn't have much and I can't bail him out when he loses it all, but he will resent my efforts and I fear it will be a rift that won't heal.  he's just not able to make wise choices now...and left them to me until this...

Lord, in your mercy...

Man Doc that is a tough one, but we both know nothing is to tough for our God, so that is where I will go with this request.  God bless you and give you peace and joy!

Thanks, Guys! I know many will offer strength and prayers... and God will provide.  Dont' know what lies ahead. Just finally felt a need to reach out to this "family".  Mine seems to be shrinking pretty fast...  :(

Our Lord, Dave, I am so sorry to hear of this turn of events in your recent beleaugered life. May your faith keep you strong and may your father return back closer to his former self. My heart and prayers go out to the both of you. Thank God for folks like Ruthie, and our friend Carl, in your life.

Doc, this is a tough one. I had a similar problem in '97 with my mother, but that was because she wouldn't eat. All I could do was be tough with her and show her that her child knew better but still loved her just as much. I'll be praying for you and your father my friend.

Thanks, Folks.  Having to turn to outsiders (office of aging) to evaluate dad's mental state and make decisions whether to expand my ability to protect him-- is an awful place to be... He's just gone loco on listening to these scam artists and doing things that are inconceivable to me... and putting his entire financial survival at total risk.

In our state, the various local Offices on Aging, investigate such things and determine whether to proceed with compentency stuff...  :(

What an awful place to be... bury mom last Spring and then watch dad turn like this...? Thankfully, God never gives more than we can handle cause I need a bigger plate..mine seems to be overflowing..   "[dntthnk]"

May God continue to bless you and your Dad.  We pray the Father to lift you up and make Himself mightily known in your circumstances.  We pray a hedge of protection around you and your father's finances and restoration of your fathers good mind.  We rebuke the attacks of satan's kingdom and seek out and destroy any of his strongholds in the name of Jesus the Christ. amen.

In His Love and Service,
peace

Thanks, Everyone! I got a couple of PM's and some very good reassurances. I've done what I can for Pop..within the legal limits of my POA.

I've worked with everyone from bank security, to tellers, to asking for special alerts be sent to branches, and then with the social worker at the facility where he lives, his attorney, and the office of aging which has the power to petition the courts for guardianship...

I know that even if Dad blows his finances, God will see his basic needs will be provided for...

I'm not in charge. God is--- and while God has pointed me in directions where I could and should have done things to help, the end result is not in my hands..it's in God's hands.

Thank you to all of you who've replied and sent encouragements. That is one reason this place is so valuable and cherished...different viewpoints help broaden our vision from our own concerns to the bigger picture of how God works through us, and not that we're in charge.

Peace to all and thanks for your support and ongoing prayers for Pop.

Most states attorneys general know of these scams. Maybe yours will send a letter to your dad. Just a thought.

Thanks, BC,

Dad's attorney, a young man (compared to me) is dedicated to "elder law" already contacted them. They're so overwhelmed, they won't send out a letter, but it is a good idea...

I tried to get our local TV station to add this scam stuff on elders to their "On your Side" series, but no word from them either...

Thanks folks!  :)

Thanks folks.  Things seem to have calmed down now..since he couldn't put his hands on his money easily...these skanks that already ripped him big time left him alone...but he's into this big time and sent "subscriptions" out for sweepstake notifications to dozens and dozens of these scamers, and now new ones are calling... Oye... Where does it end?  I've done what I can.

Thanks for the prayers, Folks.  Only God can do more now...
