I need "direction" (update)
« on: August 10, 2009, 03:03:00 PM »
Been laid off since christmas 08 and officially been unemployed since May due to cuts in the manufacturing sector. Had diligently worked on a plan prior to getting laid off. Well plan fell through as of last week (now what). I know God had desinged me for a job, what is it? I dont mind going to school, but for what? Im getting so frustrated, everything I try it fails. Went to see an army recruiter today, had an appointment, he was no show. Im just not winning. Please pray for me that God gives me direction, patiance, happiness, assurance and a closeness between me and the father. Oh yeah, a great job that I would love.

Day Dreamer,

You are correct that God has a plan for you. It is "his" will that will be done, and not ours. I can understand your frustration, but ask for guidance then truly listen. You will receive an answer.

Both my wife and I have been where you are, the plant that we both worked at shut down in early 2005. We didn't want to leave the area, as we have family that lives here that we wanted to be involved with (our grandchildren and my parents).

You said that you didn't mind going to school, well here is your opportunity, Go for it. We both picked different career paths (we learned from having all of our eggs in the same basket) and I am proud to say that in June of 2008, thirty years after graduating high school, I graduated college.

The hardest thing for me was to pick something that I would enjoy doing for the rest of my working career. I chose the medical profession, and have been a respiratory therapist since shortly after graduating. She chose an accounting career, and now works for the state here in West Virginia.

I am still without any pension, I work two different jobs per diem (which means as needed). Thankfully, she has insurance....so it could always be worse than it is for us. I keep praying that I get something that has some pension attached to it, and eventually, in God's time.....I am sure I will.

God will help us, with whatever we choose, but he isn't going to do it all for us. That being said, if a "dumb countryboy" like me can graduate and pass the board exams. You can too, with a little faith in the man above and some work of your own.

Have faith brother......this was in God's plan for you, as it was for me. Acceptance, is the key, and every single time that things got difficult and thought I couldn't get through it, he carried me right through. He will do this for you also........just keep the faith.

I will keep you in my prayers. Let us know how things turn out, I'm sure that you will be fine. Just pick something secure, and that you don't mind working for the rest of your career.

Thank you so much Winterhawk, that was truly Godsend I read the whole reply to my wife. I did apply for a job this afternoon and the Manager, which I did not know said that he was fully staffed and to "Keep The Faith" (his exact words). He had alot of compasion for me, along with your reply, it was just what I needed today. God bless you brother. I will fight the good fight and keep the gang posted.

Amen to Winterhawk1960! Praying for you. Here's an interesting comment from one of our pastor's from his message Sunday. He makes his living building custom furniture and years ago when he was deep in debt he was praying for God to provide him the money to get out of debt. He said this was his prayer (I love an honest man)"God if you just give me the money I wouldn't need you" As soon as he said that prayer he realized where his faith had been misplaced. God is gracious and our pastor is no longer in debt and has his faith in the right place.
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

Will pray for you brother. If going to school is a possibility for you, I'd jump on with both feet. Medical profession has many choices with short, 2-3 yr programs, available. Ask God where he wants this opportunity to lead.
I always hit where I'm aiming, but rarely where I'm looking.

Day Dreamer,
Your situation and mine are very similar. I too lost my job (32 years with the same Company). I have tried very hard for months to find another job but have come up empty handed. I am having a very difficult time understanding the whole thing.
I keep thinking there is a purpose to all of what has happened (just not sure what it is). Every day I struggle with a host of emotions about not having a job and not providing income. I will say a prayer for you and everyone else who wants a job.

Day Dreamer ,
Prayers sent for you but I also wanted to throw out some ideas for you . Public servant jobs are out there to be had with little schooling time . Two that come to mind are Police officer and parimedic . I work full time in a manufacturing plant but I went to night school for 8-9 months and got my BLET police certificate and picked up a RES. police officer job on the side . I have it as a back up if I lose my full time job .

Just a thought ,

Mike

I'll try to keep this short:

I was out for 2.5 years. Back in 04-Jan 06...then worked 15  mo. and back out again.  Too much schoolin in my case, so be careful what program you go after.

So many schools gear up to a current need, then by the time you graduate, there are tons out there with you and the bubble bursts.

There are many "gold collar" jobs. High tech stuff that only takes 2 years or less.

I was out again the past 13 mo. and just got back.  Folks here know about set-backs, me included. Had the best job I'd ever dreamed of, gave Him the glory every step and then at the last minute..it blew up in my face and I was left with nothing... but 11  more months of no work.

Now I'm working at the hardest job I've ever had... physically, it's killin my aged behind, but I grin on the hour drive each way knowing I've got work.

Good advice and insights from guys. God often keeps that still, small voice thing going to see how hard we listen.

Prayers for peace and endurance. Sometimes we're tested to see if we have the faith to do what He has planned for us!

Well it's been quite the road, been going to school and I'm on my last prerequisite for RN school. The plan that I worked on last year, I gave it another try and I just recieved the official notice that I have a start date. I'm not saying this to say look at me, I'm saying this to say that everyone has a journey and God knows whats best for YOU. God loves his children, he will carry you along the way, he knows what we need and in the end, God will get all the glory. I can't begin to tell you how much of an up and down it's been. As I look back, I can see his hand in it the whole time, God is amazing. Hang in there brothers and sisters push on, don't look how far you have to go look how far you have COME. Thank you all for your prayers, I will continue to pray for you.

Thanks for sharing cause yes you are right we all go through times when we can't see God working and your words help encourage us. God's best!

Prayers of Joy to read your news. May you continue to seek His Glory and give him praise for His work in your life.

Congrats too, for holding your faith in dire times. That can be a challenge...
