New prayer needs for Doc Ashby(Updated Nov 23rd)
« on: November 06, 2009, 08:15:00 AM »
I hope Doc Ed doesn't mind me sharing, but he's pretty forthwright guy.

The radiation treatments for the prostate cancer have licked the red offa his lollypop.  He's exhausted most of the time...but he keeps his Imitable positive attitude.

This week, they gave him Flomax cause the treatments have swollen the prostate to where he couldn't "go". He's having a bad reaction to the Flomax. Something only 8% get...he's experiencing horrible kidney PAIN.

If getting cattle branded on yer posterior isn't bad enough, now this!   :(

He's in such pain, even movement is hard to endure of any kind. I talked to him for a bit last night by phone, and he just has to endure it. He's not a complainer, but when he answered, I could tell something was up... He hasn't been even on his computer, which tells you all something about how bad it is!

Prayers that this new hurdle passes quickly. Some it does. Some it continues.  His Doc didn't seem to interested in trying any other meds for the "flow" and likely has good reasons.   :(

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers for Ed Ashby.

Never met Doc Ashby, but he took me under wing before he went back to Aussie last time on an arrow issue.  It was so neat, when I learned of his back problems, it seemed on right to try to reach out.

I've been blessed by having the chance to talk to Ed on the phone. He's so positive and uplifting amidst all that he's going through... it's been a gift to me to interact with the man.

Let's keep him lifted up for total healing from the prostate cancer and a manageable level of pain in it all.

Many on his email list got an update. The kidney pain is so bad now, he isn't sitting up to check the computer anymore...and he even hinted that even talking on the phone is so painful...  :(

They did MRI's and ruled out anything major causing it. Must be the meds I guess.

I'm going to give him the week before I call again. I can't imagine what he's going through all alone, and then all he eats is what he microwaves from Walmart stuff...and if he hurts too bad to talk or do computer, he's not eating I'm betting either.  :banghead:

To live so far away from such a gentle-man and unable to do squat...

Anyone know anyone in El Paso and if they have a "meals on wheels" kinda thing or some church?

Doc I contacted the pastors from a church down there that I have met. I imagine they are the ones that asked him over. I've forwarded your reports on him to our prayer group as well as the pastor I've been in contact with down there. Thanks for the updates.

I caved. I called him Sunday on my way home from a trip to central PA.  He sounded better'n I expected but the news was grim.

He thinks the kidney pain is from kidney stones. He was sure what he went through that AM was him passing on and now his one kidney was sore as getout, but not the same pain as the other'n.

That man has been through it! Spinal repair sugery, then heart problems likely from nerve involvement from the surgery, then prostate cancer, now this kidney pain that might be stones!

The radiation is starting to tell, too. He can barely eat... only bread and crackers or his stomach hurts so badly, but they say that is "normal" at this stage of radiation treatments.

Can't imagine what stamina and courage it takes to push oneself daily to get up, drive to the clinic, go through more treatments and live alone in a motel room!!

Between no energy and hurting in a dozen different ways, he's not on the internet or email after Benson got him a laptop and Ed was so tickled to be back in contact with folks.

We didn't talk long. He has a urology appt. on Thursday. Let's pray if it's stones, they pass and he can focus on one challenge, the radiation burns and complications, at a time.

We know what it's like to watch this stuff, eh Doc? On top of everything else, kidney stones? I do know how that feels. Imagine getting hit in the back over and over by a baseball bat, then his buddy starts hitting you in the side with his bat, then the 3rd guy kicks you in the groin, over and over and over. I pray for his recovery and some positive progress.
