Surgery Monday
« on: July 06, 2012, 06:36:00 PM »
Hey Gang, I got injured at work yesterday and went to the doctor who diagnosed my injury. So today the workmans comp people send me to see another doc who told me that I need to have surgery. So this coming Monday I will be going under the knife to get my injury corrected.

The bad news is that I will be out of work for close to a month and can't do ANY lifting, pulling, pushing until I'm all healed up. So I won't be doing any practice shooting for some time to come.

To say this stinks is a huge understatement.

Use the off time to do some Google Earth scouting bud !!! Just because you can't shoot doesn't mean you cannot be productive. What do you want to bet you find a big ole bruiser in a new spot you had overlooked...... ? Think positive my friend....  :readit:

Hoping for an excellent outcome of the surgery Larry, and a fast and full recovery.

I haven't been able to walk for the past 3 months.  There is finally light at the end of the tunnel.  Just do exactly as your doctor says and you will be amazed at how good the body heals itself.

Before you know it, you'll be back in the game.  Good luck.

Best of luck on a full recovery. Now on a brighter note, i dont know how restricted you may be after the surgery, but it might be a good time to build some great looking arrows, twist up some new strings, do some leather work ETC.

Look at it this way, you were told you couldn't shoot until you healed, not that you could never shoot again!!!

I just went thru a major spinal surgery 2 months ago and have been shooting for the past few weeks.  I used my down time to order a new custom bow in a lower poundage.  I told my wife I needed a recovery bow.

Follow doctors advice, stay positive, get some videos and books. Do some scouting when able, set out some trail cams, make some deer lure, and
GOOD LUCK!

Larry,

Being 19 yrs younger via your birthdate, I can tell you that if you think that having a MONTH off the things you like sucks, then try avoiding what you're supposed to do and wait a few more years to see what repercussions will develop and how much you WON'T be able t o do...permanently!

Everyone is encouraging you to follow the doc's orders to the letter of the law for a reason. Sins of our youth are realized in our later years!

I guess you're in your early 40's and that isn't a pup, but dang, the punishment I did to myself in earlier years is sure kicking my kiester NOW!

Be smart.  Be grateful that a WC doc actually got you into surgery that quickly...usually, they drag out in PT for weeks or more and THEN try surgery.

Do what you need to do according to their directions and timing.  Patience, Grasshopper!

You'll be back in shape before hunting season!

I'm going to follow the Dr's orders to the letter. I might miss the early part of the season but I hope, God willing to be back out for October and November.

I feel pretty grateful to have had things move this quickly. The sooner I get fixed up the sooner I can spend time with the people I love and do the things I like to do with them.

Again thank you for all your kindness and thoughts and prayers.

Hi Trad Gang Friends,

I did have my surgery July 9 and Dr said everything was good. So after almost a month recovering I saw the Dr today and he told me that I can go back to work August 20 with no restrictions.

I am feeling much better but still not 100% but tomorrow I will see how I can draw back a bow starting with a 25 lb recurve and then maybe on TS Mag.

My archery season starts in about a month and I hope I can make the opener. If not I can wait it out a bit longer.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and positive comments here.
