It is that time!
« on: September 27, 2012, 01:35:00 PM »
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

This prayer has been a part of my life now for nine straight years.  As of October 1, 2012 I will be sober for nine years.  A lot has changed in my life for the better, although I still have my struggles and obstacles to deal with as everyone, I am proud of who I am today for what I have accomplished.

With that said, I have a confession to make, and hopefully another start towards a better life for myself, my loved ones, and family and friends.  I went and got a pack of cigarettes this morning at 5:30 AM, and have 3 left.  That has got to stop, and stop now.  I have tried before only to fail, so with that said, once again on this day I ask'

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
Genesis 27:3 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me [some] venison

Praying for you Charlie and congratulations! I was so bad I don't even remember the year I got sober. God is faithful. It took a lot for me to finally stop smoking so I know what you're going through. Prayers for strength, wisdom, and comfort.

I quit smoking 6 times before it worked. If you really want to quit, you can.

Congrats on quitting before and all the years of sober living.  You have the tools, put them to work.

Good luck, I'll be praying for you.
Relax,

You'll live longer!

Prayers sent.  You have accomplished so much and this is yet one more notch to add, whenever that may be.  God Bless.

Charlie, you can quit smoking....I did and to be real honest, I think that it was harder than staying sober......both were tough and I am going on 22 years now......keep praying, God ain't done with you yet !!!!!

It sure is harder to quit the smoking, or at least for me it is, but I have cut back a lot in the last few days.  Tomorrow will be the "cold turkey day" for me.  I am sure there will be lots of bad days ahead, but it will be so worth it.

Thanks everyone for all the thoughts and prayers.

Amazing to me how many have battled and beaten the demon rum, as it were.

I hope that my li'l Buddy, Motormouth reads this!

Charlie,
Congrats on your sobriety. You are in good company here and many that I have come to know who beat that demon... Addictive personality traits spill over into other vices... like the smokes.  They're not doing you any good, and as hard as you're fighting other issues, I want to see you be around a good long time to pester your grand kids and keep them on the straight and narrow. You have too much archery knowledge yet to share as well.

So my prayerful best wishes to quit smoking and no matter how many tries it takes... it only takes one MORE to be successful.  And the right mindset and motivation.

Keep the Son in your eyes and the smoke outa them!  :)

You can do it.  My father-n-law was a HEAVY smoker, 2-3 packs/day.  Got saved & quit cold turkey.  You can too.  Think of the money you'll save!
