Subject: Post Confusion on Trad Gang......

Below is your post you meant to add to a different thread in a different
forum....you can copy and paste it there.....

Not sure how to start this so will just start writing.
As for the attacks on my character because of the weapon choice I made. Uhhh
wellll??
I killed the biggest whitetail buck I have shot with an osage selfbow that I
made. Cut the tree down, split the wood, created a bow, made the sinew glue
that I used to sinew back it and glue the snakeskins on with! The day I shot
that buck I was a true bow hunter. 10 Days later I killed my second biggest
buck, 7 year old, from a ground blind at 5 ydrs, with a Great Plains custom
recurve. I was a bowhunter that day too! As for the numerous other deer I have
killed bowhunting, well again I was a bowhunter.

Now I have also killed many deer with a rifle. Rifle hunter at that time.

I have killed deer and pigs with a Lyman Trade rifle, FFG black powder and
450grn lead conicles. Muzzleloader hunter at that time.
Started off in the beginning as a gun hunter, found traditional archery at
some point and was then a dedicated bowhunter, no guns. Realized the
opportunities I have hunting with all so that is what I do!

My origanal post stated I would probably use a gun. The reason I posted it was
because I was pissed and lookin for a place to vent. Every now and then I like
to write little stories so that is what I did.
Very soon the responses were poring in and the thought of getting the tag back
was strong. I started talking to Heather and she talking to others and the
support put into place a change in the regs and I had the tag back. The people
who worked on this will forever have my appreciation and praise. It was
amazing and will benifit Soldiers in AK forever!!!

Not looking for total exceptance on this as that is the great part about
living in this country. EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion, and those who
take action make things happen!!!
AGAIN thank you to all that participated in this.

Heather and I put so much time into planning this hunt. And our plan was to
take my bow and the rifle, if I couldn't figure out how to get close to
anything by the 8th or so I would use the gun. Not sure how many of you have
had to plan a hunt like this, in the middle of nowhere, for 10 days, but this
was our first time. In the end we could find no way to take the extra weight
of my Habu and acc. At the house we were still 3 pounds over on our 50lbs
limits. Turns out we stuffed our pockets with so much crap that we were 3
pounds under at the flight place. Still not enough.

We flew in and were seeing sheep on day one. No hunting, just camp setup and
prep. The law.

With the terrain and the inexperience, I was glad to have the rifle. Of course
I wouldn't have made the mistake I did but I can't changed that now and have
come to except it as is. I terrible mistake that was made out of..... not sure
what as I usaully have a pretty level head while hunting. We saw a 3 sheep
come DOWN the mountain, 1 legel and 2 not. I raced a click to get infront of
em. Watched the full curl go behind a small knob and shot him when he came
out. VERY bad decision as you all know. Adrenaline, excitement, not hunting
for 2 years, who knows...but pull the trigger I did.

When I walked up to him my excitement immediately went to disbelief. Felt
sick, didn't know how to walk back and tell Heather. My thoughts to everyone
that made this hunt happen tore me apart. HOW could I have let them down.
I got to Heather and started crying because I felt like a total failure. We
went back to the sheep and took care of the dressing and packing back to camp.

Over the next day I caped and cleaned and salted the cape. That was one of my
goals of the hunt as I had never done it and learned all I could prior. Turned
out a success too.
Stressed quite a bit and finally called to get picked up.
Flew out and went to the FG and turned it in. Didn't ASK for any special
treatment, just glad that it wasn't any worse.
For those that think there is no option because you are flying I wonder if you
know how big Alaska is! I have heard stories of the same thing happening and
people simply burying the animal and shooting another...

I try very hard to teach my children right from wrong with game laws.
Everytime my little girl would cry because I was letting one of her copper
river reds go, I would explain the law and how the fish must be caught.
Teaching them right from wrong.
This sheep would also be a valueble lesson in that, they would be waiting at
home with much anticipation. I had to tell them what I did, not to mention my
mother, who was there with them!
But right is right and wrong is wrong.

To those that speak of the Army as being all volunteer and shouldn't get
special treatment. Well for one I would and have never expected it for myself,
as I am sure 98% of Soldiers feel. But when I look at the Soldiers of my
platoon and work with them and think of the things they are giving up to be
here I wish them to have everything special anyone would give them.!!
It is all volunteer but a ton of Soldiers that enlist do not have many options
when they do. Not looking at the Army as a way of life at first, just an
escape, but after they get where they are going they start to learn and love
this job. They are worthy of special treatment, just as the fire fighters and
policemen and woman and many other professions.

Ok this has gotten pretty long, better sign off.

As for my character, It is sound and it is intact. Ask anyone of my Soldiers!

As for the mistake. I have learned to accept it. Very difficult at first. I am
truely sorry for giving a black eye to all that helped out. Forever will be,
but I thank you still.
That hunt did not end as I wanted but Heather and I had an experience of a
lifetime.

And to the weapon choice...
When I killed my cow moose in November I was a bowhunter... Habu Vyperkhan
equaled a dead moose. Awesome experience. And now I shoot an indoor league
with my ACS CX every wednesday and what a BOW!!
When I killed my caribou in Dec. I was a gun hunter. 300WSM, very accurate
gun!! Meat in the freezer!! Only wish I could have got my son close enough as
this was his first hunt ever... But he touched me out there. When I gave him
the opportunity to shoot, leaving the decision to him, with fingers crossed!!!
he told me no, it was to far to shoot!! GOOD DECISION!! And when I asked him
if he was OK not to have a chance at a caribou he said " yes dad, this was
still a good bonding time "" VERY Proud of that boy!! anyway.....

Its never happened to me, but I've seen things get yanked and for the life of me can't figure out why. One time someone actually was accused of
trying a get rich scheme. I could see pulling it but the guy wasn't a con artist. I think that this is a great site with a great bunch of people. I am willing to cut the moderators some slack to keep it that way. Thanks.
Brian
P.S. What the heck was that???

I got one pulled. It was about some guy hunting illegally on my Uncle's land.It was pulled because people said all kinds of different ways that they would "deal" with him. Many of those could be called vandilism. That is why mine was pulled. We posted signs recently and the guy shot and cut them. What people will do these days.

The thread was pulled and the guy was accused of trying to create a get rich scheme by the moderator.I think that the moderator was out of line and should have apologized to the guy. It was not the respectful treatment that I've come to be accustomed to here. The person is a regular visitor and I feel was humiliated by the moderator. The moderator could have been a little more diplomatic. After reading your previous posts on this thread,I have a little better understanding of what your up against. Like I said , I'm willing to cut the moderators some slack to keep the forum what it is. Thanks for asking.

This is one of the reasons the 'gang' is so good!!
You can see heated words and efforts to maintain all at once.
Well explained and conversed.
