Flights to South Africa, please help me
« on: January 10, 2007, 03:43:00 PM »
I am leaving in early august for a trip to south africa.  I don't know if anyone can point me in the right direction as far as agents or consolidators for good flights and prices.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You will probably not get many inputs like mine but I recommend that you book the flights yourself.Go on line and do it.    My travel agent last July managed to screw up most of the details for me so this September I have already booked flights on Delta direct from Atlanta with refueling off the N.Africa coast.  Cost will likely be about the same.

Hi Tom,
I'm flying to SA in the second week of August. I'll be hunting at Visser's. I haven't done too much work yet but I plan on looking into it seriously when I return from javelina hunting in Arizona week after next. I've heard both sides so far. Do it yourself and have an agent do it. Call an agent(s) and get a bid. They should have purchased their bookings by now. Then DIY on the internet and see what happens. I ran Delta and SAA and they were about $150 different from San Francisco to Jo-burg with stops on the East Coast or Paris. If you do it soon let me know what you find out!
Good luck,

I went to Vissers this past summer.  I used a travel agent named Marilyn Burton from Great Escapes Travel.  She does alot of Africa stuff.  Everything went perfect for me.  Her phone number is (406) 375-0505.

my hunting buddy booked his flight through:
Kathi Klimes at WildTravel.net (she’s “Kathi” on the AR African forum).   Her address is [email protected]

He had a very good experience dealing with her.
Hope this helps.
Pete

Silent,
Let us know how it turns out, price wise.

I do know Delta has now got direct flights out of Atlanta that refuel on the west coast of Africa and then go on to Jo-burg.

Let us know how you fare, pardon the pun.

Buff, that sounds right. I booked thru Gracy as well for July. When and where are you hunting?

Excuuuuuse me.  I didn't even know I burped!
My wife and I used Gracy, and were very pleased.  I would use an agent, not so much to save a few bucks, but so they could arrange some side trips for you.  You wouldn't want to spend 18 hours cramped into a plane and not spend a few extra days seeing some of the country!

Annelise at Gracy did a superb job for me. She was patient and professional answering all of my questions.
STL to ATL, then to Jo-burg. Stay overnight then from Jo-burg to Polokwane. I changed flight times twice on her and she still handled it all. No sweat on my end. $5049.00 for both of us. More than I was hoping, but I can't swim it.  LOL

I ended up paying a tad over $2300 from Kansas City to Polokwane.  I felt i paid a little much to be honest.  Maybe not though....

I have used either Orbitz or Travelocity for all my round-trip flights to the RSA.  So far, they have been good.  I live in Orlando Florida and these sites show a going rate from Orlando to Jo'burg at around $1800.00USD in January, and around $1500.00USD in June.

Cheers!
