The last piece of the puzzle
« on: June 18, 2007, 09:29:00 PM »
The last piece of the plan arrived today. 12 -- 180 grain German Kinetics broadheads. They are alot smaller than the Zephyers I have been shooting with just a 1 1/8" cut but they are thick and super sharp. These new heads are the last thing on my list. Tickets are bought, arrows are fletched. I'm flying to Montana tomorrow to play with my new grandson this week then next Friday...AFRICA

Hi Buff, see how he's holding his hands out for that bow you're aiming to give him. nice family and enjoy your African trip.  :archer:

Thanks Doc... I won 6 of them in the Saint Judes auction and really like the way they looked so I ordered 6 more. I was a little concerned about penetration with the 1-9/16" cut Zephyers I have been using

Hi Buff,
Good luck with those nice broadheads! I like mine but for some reason I can't get them to fly quietly like I can with grizzlys. I shoot the 210 silver flames. What is your bow and arrow set up? And where are you going and what are you shooting for? My wife and I are going to Vissers August 13th through the 24th. Counting down the days and getting our gear together. My wife shoots a compound so I'm gettin' headaches setting up two different rigs!

going to Vissers for 10 days. I will be shooting a 74# SAIII with Carbon Express arrows and a 3 grain per inch weight tube. I have shot 3 hogs with this set up and I like it very well. What little I shot the GK broadheads they flew very well.

Your set up will certainly get the job done, and then some, on any of those critters.  You won't need to do any tree climbing or running I suspect.  Have a great time.  I leave August 2nd!!!!!

... uffff! What a relive!!!

I was thinking since your first post, which of both would be the mother - but was to affraid to ask - wouldn't want to hurt anybodys feelings!

  :goldtooth:

BTW: shoot only ONE arrow - then walk and retrieve it - then shoot an other if you have to, but 12 a day sounds okay for me.
Maybe you could go and stalk some rabbits with your setup? That wouldn't hurt your shoulder I suppose and keep you tuned and in hunting mode ...?!

On my first trip to SA I took 24 arrows along. Returned with 23. On my second trip I took less (woodies!) and lost again only two of them. I don't say you'll need just four arrows, but I suppose there is no need to get an overweight surcharge on your laugage because of to much of them.

Go and have some fun in Africa! I am jealous - that's for sure!

Just returned from my first trip. I shot a 55# Pronghorn, two blade Magnus 1 1/8, carbons with tubes and steel adapters. 685 grains. Longest shot was 22 yards. I had two holes on wildebeest, kudu cow, kudu bull, impala and hit the off shoulder on zebra and another impala. Bow weight was plenty, accuracy was much more important. They are tough animals and the stomach is not far behind the shoulder. Straight up the leg and 1/3 up like everyone says. The trackers can be incredible but they like short trails better too.
