I began planning a trip to Africa about two years ago.  I have been once before (back in 1996) when I shot wheelie bows - had a great time.  This time I booked my trip with some buddies that I hunt with from Canada.  They are halarious and do a great job of producing videos of their hunts.  I'm the only trad guy on the trip.

Well (news flash!) the economy has pretty much tanked and I really should be staying home.  Money is WAY tighter now then when I started this process.  But "dang it" I'm still going!  I saved the money- stashed it away and used credit card miles to buy the plane tickets.
Here's my set up for the trip.
ACS 62# at 29 1/2"
CE 250's with Abowyer Wapiti 175's
Total arrow wgt 715
New KME Sharpener to get them ready.
I take off September 8th and will be home on the 22nd.
Hope to have some good photos and video to share with you guys when I get back!

I hope you have a fantastic journey.  Be sure to take plenty of pics for those of us who can only dream of Africa.

Thanks for the good words and wishes.  I'm really looking forward to the trip.  I'm hunting with Ken Moody.  He got some very good references from some "friends of friends" who have hunted there with him.  They went a few years ago and booked again....good sign.
We will be hunting towards the Northeast part of S. Africa in the Limpopo Province.  I don't really have a hit list of animals.  I just really want to go there and have a great African experience with my traditional equipment.

welcome to SA! The weather's nice today...21 degrees and mild breeze nice w/s weather. lots of game about, we had a set of showers come through a week back and the animals are out in the open munching fresh green shoots, they're too busy to look out for hunters!

You will be glad for the rest of your life that you have made the decision to take the trip despite the economy. Recessions will come and go. Safaris in Africa may just go. Anyone who has the opportunity to hunt there needs to do it sooner rather than later because the African nations are generally in decline and China is encroaching quickly throughout the continent. I am going back next June for my 6th time and hope to make it there a few more times before I am no longer capable or the hunting is no longer available, whichever comes first.

Have fun and report back!

I'll definitely take lots of photos and video.  Allan you are right on the mark and sum up very well why I decided to go ahead with this adventure. Thanks for the encouraging words!

Well, I'm back....Great trip.  Definitely had some success.  I have the photos I just need to "re-school" on getting them posted properly.
Score on the trip:  Four arrows...Four animals.  Impala, Gemsbok, Kudu and Wildebeest.  More later!
