AFRICAN RUT
« on: May 15, 2011, 11:44:00 PM »
Leavin for south africa in 6 days for my bowhunt.  Heard some ofthe animals should be rutting since its fall there.  Has anyone hunted the rut there?  Will it affect waterhole use or possibly increase the odds on a stillhunt like it does here.

I have and with the right techniques it's pretty fun!  You'll love to see how the impala's behave, I already described it on another thread so I won't bother repeating it again.  The kudu definately have rutting activity but it's a bit subdued, more like a whitetail than an elk if you want to compare to American animals.

let us know how it went!

I hunted impala in South Africa when they were in rut and they did lots of snorting and fighing I didn't try it but believe if you had a couple good sturdy limbs of tree and did a rattle sequence like for whitetail you could call them in. They were especially active early in the morning and did a lot of fighting.
