Black Walnut Stave Help
« on: December 29, 2007, 03:52:00 PM »
I have a beautiful black walnut stave that I'm ready to start on. I have learned to come here to tap into the vast knowledge of this group. How much whitewood should I leave on? Should I chase it down to one ring? Should I back it with some beautiful bamboo that I have or leave it brown and white? Opinions please!!! Thanks
Brian

However much you want. I've shot all heartwood BW and all sapwood except the handle area. Both worked. Wide limbs are recommended-BW is actually not a very dense hardwood. You can, of course, stain sapwood to look like heartwood or leave the contrast.
