me & my pastor from my church are trying to get an eik hunt going,non-guided-do it yourself type hunt, but would like to hunt private land & maybe have a place to stay also.does anyone know of any outfitters or landowners that offer such a hunt at a reasonable price.(bowhunt of course)

thanks jbiorn, but im not looking for a guide.my pastor doesnt get the time off that it takes to go out on public land, fight the crowds, locate the elk,etc.......thats why were looking for some private land with maybe some lodging also, other than that really a no frills/bare-bones type hunt.

Going to be hard to find a hunt like that, unless you have big dollars at hand.

I'm no guide. I'm just a hunter like you. I would just welcome some trad guys to my camp is all.

Non-guided private land setups like you are looking for do exist, but they are rare, and tend to be closely guarded with the same groups going back year after year, so it is hard to find.  But with some research and calling around you might come up with something.
Then again, having a local like JBiorn offering to share a camp is an offer you should really look into.  Living amoungst 'em is a real advantage, and there's lots of great public land out there.

Interesting thread, I've been wondering about the same thing, was kinda hoping to build a bow for someone who would let me hunt, give me place to pitch my tent and show me around a little, but I don't want to hunt with a guide per say, I want to hunt with a friend.

turkeyslayer,i would take bjiorn up on his offer,he knows the area, elk, thats a hard combination to beat, thats half the battle won whether your hunting private or public.his experiance with the area might be enough from keeping a big kitty from chewing on the back of your neck.
