The basalt country of North Queensland is a very intresting place to hunt. This is a picture of an aborigional camp site. The aborigianals use to clear the loose rocks off the basalt lava flow to make a camp site. This is a small camp site of which you find a lot of and some of the camp sites are very large areas cleared of loose rocks where a lot of aborigionals camped next to permenate water where they gathered fresh water mussles...Glenn...

Doug,
If your pictures don't do it justice I can't imagine what it would be like in person!

JC, We do have some very nice creeks and small rivers in Louisiana but those pictures were taken in Mississippi.

A solid hit has been made on a pig in the long grass of a dry basalt pocket.

Not the greatest pic, but it was the best I could get at the time.  Also had to zoom in quite a bit, so it is grainy.  It is a little 6 or 8 point.  Took last Saturday morning.  Should be a real nice buck if he can make it through another rifle season or two.

G'day Mr M Shane, sorry to inform you but that's a big no! Been to flat out with work and buying my first home. But I'm more than happy with the bow mate, see sure is a shooter and a keeper!
Plan to do some hunting very shortly though, so stay tuned!

We have had 80 degree temps for the last week and I stayed home. Today the temp started dropping so I went to a stand in a 5 acre oak patch. I had killed a spike out of this stand opening day and hadn't been in it for 3 weeks. Plenty of acorns on the ground but the only deer I saw were headed to a green field on adjacent property.

Shot this buck yesterday morning, Nov 3rd. Killed him with a rivercane arrow, Magnus II head, out of a reflex/deflex BBO of my own making. Field Dressed 185. Not bad for a "young un".    [/IMG]
As you can see, he was quartering away and the Magnus did a number on him

Here's a different view. He was a base ten pointer with a split brow tine and a couple of kickers near the burrs.  [/IMG]
