those cougars make me shudder.  I saw one in montana one time from about 30 yards away.  he had just jumped the logging road I was driving down and I stopped to get a closer look.  he was staring back at me and I swear it was like he was looking INSIDE me.  I got a little spooked and I was in a truck with the windows up.  he turned and in two steps melted into the grass like a ghost.  Good luck on taggin him.  I'm glad its your ladder stand and not mine tho.

Long shanks

You should be able to right click your mouse on the photo and "Save as" to your documents.

By the way

I got to a new sling spot in the dark this morning and....you guessed it... the big guy walked in front of me at 25 yds.  It wasn't legal light yet so....he's still walking.  I'll keep you posted.
My two cents worth

Here is a pic of a Samber Deer that a mate sent me the other day. These deer a very hard to hunt and live in real thick country. Enjoy.

Bill,

Yep, I'll be out Saturday.  Will only get to hunt in the afternoon though as my wife scheduled some "family" pictures for 8:30 Sat. morning.  Can you believe it?

Hopefully, I'll run in to this guy.  I have another picture of him in the velvet and was glad to see that he survived gun season.  That's my ground blind in the background.  I bought it so that my five-year old daughter can go "huntin'" with me.  She's always asking, but there's no way I wanted to put her in a tree stand.  I've got another picture from the inside looking out with her that I'll see if I can find.

Good luck to you.

Stan

Great pic Stan, especially with the blind in the background like that.

Stan, that is COOL!

I was wondering how your blind is to shoot out of??

I crawled around in one and felt"crowded" trying to shoot...Heck, you got a longbow...Are you kneeling or what?

Aussie, what a neat looking deer!  Never seen one of those before.  Are they native to Australia? or an import and if so where from?

Here is a short video from this mornings hunt.  I have hunted this spot 3 times in the morning and 3 times I have seen deer on the same trail at about the same time.

This morning I opted to sit on the ground so I could get a little closer to where they were passing through.  Right on time I hear a noise and sure enough here come two deer a doe and a fawn.  I had plenty of back cover but not much front cover.  The doe came into about 20 yards saw me but wasn't sure what to do so she came in to investigate. She got as close as 10 yards never spooked but was bobing and weaving trying to get me to move.  She eventually turned around and walked directly away never offering a shot.

Now the video only shows the fawn when they were walking away but at the end I zoom in on a fallen tree. The big doe nipped at some moss on the Y of that log.  She was close and eyeballing the hec out of me.

It was and exciting morning to say the least.

Nice job Don. I have a problem gettin that close to em on the ground cause I move a little too much, one of the reasons I like my stands so high.

Stan, that is one cool picture with the blind in the background. I think I'd have to throw that one in front of my wife and say "No more saturday appointments sweetie, ever."

Good job Meat.  One my most exciting hunts this year was having four deer with ten yards of me while hunting from the ground.  Closest was at 4 yards, and like you I never got a shot.  I woulda swore they could hear my heart pounding in my chest.

Bill,

I don't have a problem shooting out of the blind with a 66" longbow.  There is enough room at the top to move the bow about 30 degrees from side to side.  Now, having said that, you'd better be ready to shoot when somethings in that 30 degree window, or it's a no go.

I honestly don't know how much I'll hunt out of the thing.  I bought it so that my daughter could sit in it with me.  She asks me a lot if she can go hunting with me, and this is a way that she can stay warm, relatively dry, and still see a couple of deer.

Stan
