The Creation of Monsters......
« on: March 22, 2004, 11:47:00 AM »
Well,.....at least they're cute.

I took my gals to their 1st Trad Shoot this weekend, and they had way more fun than I thought they would.  I knew something was about when my wife, after being there only an hour on Saturday, says "I want a bow, and I want it now...I want to shoot the course tomorrow with the girls."

So, Sunday morning we picked out a bow from a vendor that fit her needs, along with arrows, arm guard, and a glove.  I took her to the practice targets and gave her some 'quick' lessons....and away we went. My oldest girl Rachel made a friend named Daylin, and we took her along as well.  My wife is 'staking claim' to my bobcat quiver.    "[laffsmyl]"

There I was, having the grandest of time, and busy as a beaver keeping up with 4 girls and their equipment.  I didn't even string my bow....and I sure don't regret it.

They are now asking....."when's the next one?".  I still can't believe how much fun they had either.  Never financed a '3-D team', but it sure looks like I'm gonna hafta figure it out.    :D

Here's a few highlights of my weekend......and an introduction to the "Tarzan's Dream Team".

I can believe you didn't string your bow.  Who wants to be shown up. Those arrows seem to be pretty well placed.   ;)  How much do they charge for lessons?

woods around those targets look really familiar...  :p

Seriously, though, Terry you're lucky they didn't get over on the second range--it had some even cooler targets, you'd have been real late gettin' home

Yep, Had to drag mine along for the first one, but now they are in the truck before me when I say we are going to a shoot. Wonderful way to spend quality time with the family.

Great Terry! You have the GA archery version of the Swedish womens ski term there form the looks of it. I know you must be happy they have found it as much fun as they did. You will need to carry a strung bow to keep the wolves at bay though. May your monster thrive and live long.

I think this stuff has a proper place on the pow wow too. Archery is about the fun the family and the comradery too.

Terry,
Thanks for sharing. Believe me when I say that someday Dad will be uncool and an embarrassment, especially when the boy friend is hanging around. And thats OK. It's a phase, today my 28 year old daughter thinks I'm cool again.

Say, can you get me some of those camo thights your one daughter wears. I could hunt in Robin hood style.LOL.

Later Bro,

Paul

I would have been there too had it not been for the conflect with South Carolina's Frist state trad championship. I felt they needed as much support as they could get. Maybe next year they won't be the same weekend. Thay had 60 or so shooters, and ended in the black. It was great fun. I bought a native American flute while there, and now have created a new monster hobby for myself.

Terry, don't forget we've still got the Southern and Northern zone shoots coming up...

Doug we missed you and some other SC friends, too. We'll be setting dates for next year's shoot very soon so should avoid that conflict next year. I would like to have been at that shoot myself, haven't been to a shoot in SC since Callison...

Terry, My wife and kids go to shoots with me all the time. It is a pile of fun.

As I have said to others the way to get women and kids to shoot is to get them their own equipment.  It has to fit them and they have to be comfortable with it or they will give up quickly.  The second thing is get them on a 3D course. Shooting at foam critters is way more fun than shooting at hay.  Third creatively convince them to move closer. If they have success they will stick with it.  Often that means you will need to move up too.  I know my son wants to shoot from where I do but gets frustrated when he misses all the time. So I "crowd" the target a bit so he can shoot from where dad is and still hit the target regularly.

Way to go! I second the thumbs up on that camo pattern the little one has on that is good stuff.

My son shoots a fiberglass bow I made him.  Now my daughter is of age (2 1/2) so I made her a oak backed osage bow.  My sister wanted one so I made here a oak/walnut/rosewood longbow.  My wife went out shooting with all of us and put 60 shots through my sister's longbow.  So now I'm making my wife a hickory/walnut/rosewood longbow, because she wants to shoot with the family and doesn't want to be left out.  You don't have to ask me twice to get everyone in the family armed and out shooting.

CONSIDER YOURSELF A LUCKEY MAN

All my kids are grown and gone, but they never had an interest anyway.  My grandson was with me at the Georgia shoot.  No way I ever have a chance of getting my wife there.  No interest whatsoever.  I envy you.  Your pictures were great.  I enjoyed going through them and see all the targets that I missed (many of them)
