thanks mike... still dont know how to put these things on here even though I try do what it says.. but anyways. I was on my way back to the truck when I saw this guy bedded in a draw looking up the hill away from me. put myself within 25 yards for a double lunger and a 10 yard recovery. this is all new to me( no training wheels) but I like it alot. now if I could only afford a morrison or a silvertip...

Well, I finally connected Saturday morning 7:50 A.M. , one week into the Virginia archery season.
Black Widow MAV 64" 56 @30" . 55/75 GT 175 Gr. Grizzly BH. Deer was walking at steady pace and I didn't account for it well enough. Shot was back in the liver. Still only went about 150 yds. Sparse blood trail to follow ( I'm not liking these Grizzlys). My best buck yet with the bow.

Congratulations, that is a nice deer.  I have found that I like the Grizzly's on hits from the last rib forward but the blood trail of the one I hit farther back was marginal at best.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

That is a good'un Kenny.  Congrats.

You say he went 150 yards.  I started using a little trick every time I shoot a deer.  Just as soon as the arrow has hit the deer and they start to take off I loudly mouth grunt two or three times.  They have seldom traveled more than 30 yards before they stop and look for the sound.  I guess they think another buck has poked them.

Had a good day today. No shots but saw a small 6pt. and two does he thought he'd chase. Explore a little on my new lease and walked in areas that hadn't had anyone there in many years. I almost felt as if I was intruding. I took a few pics that I'd like to share.
The butterflies out in force.

Could these be fossils of a doe and fawn like animals?

The buck I saw this morning.

took my wife on her 1st hunt of the year last night. saw 2 does. A buck was after them. seems a little early for this behavior. also last week i watched 2 bucks fighting. anyone else seeing any of this early rut behavior?
