OK,update.Things change as we go along!! Glued up the riser this AM(Caught up on lam orders!)
Then we ground the lams for it,no pic of the red elm core, but here are the purpleheart lams!!
One end....
And the other...
I think they're gonna look OK!
Gotta get back to the shop!!

Kenny, lams look great. Where in KC do you go shopping for lam wood? I plan on getting supplies for my first bow from Binghams but I will probably start looking locally after I gain a little more confidence in the building process. Just curious on where you shop for wood in KC. I'm thinking of heading to Paxton's and Schutte's.

Did the next step on the riser tonite, gonna glue her up in the AM.Put a couple .060" maple strips in a couple different radius.

Here we go,ready to glue er up,got my lam ends beveled and superglued together....
Heres a lil trick I've started usin, couple holes drilled where the sight window goes, corresponding holes in the form, toothpicks hold everything lengthwise and helps keep that slippery riser under control
Gotta wait till she cooks now.

Hey Celtic,I hadn't thought of the purple dino, don't think she liked im anyway. More like Deep Purple, actually that Smoke on the water song was playin while I glued!
Tripper, probably won't make the banquet. If you wanna make one, come on up! Heck, you could ride up with Eric!!

Gettin closer, still gotta sand a bunch and spray it. Came out 62",25@ 28",she says that feels about right to start off,and I can cut it down to 60" if need be. Heres a few pics, more when I get the finish on it!
Bought her a new glove, armguard and purple feathers!!

That's gonna look great Kenny! Got a qiuck question. Did you glue the zebra wood on after the bow came out or did you glue it up with the rest of the bow? Just curious, Mike

Mike, theres probably a better way,but I glued the 3/4" purpleheart to the 2 1/4" zebra, then cut the 2 radius cuts and inserted .060" maple and glued. Then bandsawed between the two main riserwoods and cut the purpleheart riser to its wedge shape. Then glued the bow up with the purpleheart riser, then glued the zebrawood to the belly to make the recurve handle. WHEW!!
The bandsawing and squaring up makes the radius lines line up with minimal fitting when you get the glass and lams in between.

Thanks guys.
Matt,I hope the purple on the riser matches the limbs when finished. It should, outta the same board. Didn't know how purpleheart was for a limb wood, but thats what she wanted ,so I put a thicker red elm core in and went with it!
Tripper, are we goin to the Marshall shoot on the 24th of Feb.? Anybody else close to Marshall,MO wanna go?

Wow !!! Very nice. I have been drawing plans up for my first laminated flat bow and the riser you built is nearly identical to what I drew up. I like a flat bow, but like a recurve style riser that melt's into your hand. Looks like you do too !!! At least I have an idea what it will look like when it's done. Very pretty bow !!!! John
