Walt,

You've expressed your thoughts and emotions well in this story, which has a very positive ending.  While I understand your lack of satisfaction, it is still a job well done!

Ted,
The buck died thirty yards from where Brents elk died a couple of weeks back.

But Walt, you still shot that buck on the run... and ended his "pain".  I'd be feeling pretty good right now, was I you.  Plus thats a heck of a buck by the looks of him.   Some buckshot Cowboy owes you a beer ta-boot for cleaning up his work.  Do you have any ideas as to who that may be?  Just curious.  Randy.

He came from Abigails place and was runnig around all summer and fall with that buck with the sticker on his right G2.  Think I have seen him close to a dozen times during that time period.

The only thing I would have done different is a back-handspring when I got to him.

Good job!!!!!!

Far better that you took him than leaving him for the coyotes as it appears the other person seemed to be doing.

Please keep something for the mojo bag.

This evening I took Hope out to an old ranch I used to hunt several years back.  The owner has over 700 acres and only allows archery and shotgun hunting but is surrounded by rifle hunting property.  I hunted the place several times in the past month (killing one doe) without any problems, but those were all on weekdays.  I was reminded not to hunt this place on the last day of rifle season by several bullets whizzing over my head.  Being the last day of the general season it appeared as if everybody had brought out the guns to fill the freezer.  Last week I made a ground blind along some good deer trails and the fresh snow indicated heavy use earlier in the morning.  Unfortunately, the deer did not want to come out of the brush until after dark this evening.

Dave I will make sure and send something for the Mojo bag, hopefully it has some yellow in it.

Way to go Walt!  Batting clean up isn't so bad sometimes.  It might take away from the hunt a little, but you put a stalk on a mature deer and delivered a killing shot.  Now go get some serious MOJO with a big cat.          Miss Hope is picking up some serious MOJO with every outing. She is doing her duty to help the children that need a bit more.

I'm next up and I'm hoping to get out after the "Big Boy" we caught smiling on camera last week.  I'll post the picture when I can get it all figured out.  The largest VERY Typical 8 point I have every personally seen.  I saw him about 3 weeks earlier at about 25 yards BEHIND my tree and then he saw me when I poked my head around and the sun decieded to poke its face out and light up mine for him to see.(that's a heck of a sentence...)  As I watched the white flag, I was slightly discouraged but I instantly wanted to do it all over again.

With Christmass mixed in to my time and some serious illnesses in my extedned family, time and travel to hunt might be limited with Miss HOPE, but the time she spends in the field will be Cherished.

Good on ya Walt; I consider that a real trophy because you ethically and humanely ended an animals suffering.  I'd take that over the biggest, oldest buck in the woods.  Congrats brother!!

Good job, Walt.  An animal desrves to live well and die well.  Because of your shot with Hope, you assured that beast of a humane and noble death.  Congratulations on a beautiful buck!

After seeing the buck Jeremy is holding out for I decided to send the bow on early.  I am thankful that Chad sent Hope along earlier then required, thus allowing me the opportunity on the buck.  I am sure he will be able to use it more then myself in the next four weeks.

Jeremy, Hope should be there on Thursday.

Good Luck,

Walt Francis

Alright Walt!! I think I know right where you stalked that buck and that was one heck of a tough job even if he wasn't 100%. Well done and congrats on one dandy buck.          :notworthy:

Way to go Walt...you did real good bud!!!  That's a great buck.I can see why it might not be "quite the same" as if the buck wasn't hit already. But you certainly did the right thing and made a good shot, and you definately added to the mojo of "Hope".

Congrats!
