Chaseing a ring on Osage can be fun @#%*
« on: November 24, 2004, 06:24:00 PM »
I got a little tired of makeing the same old, same old bows. But this may be a little more of a challenge. I followed the grain the best I could, and still violated a few rings, but a little rawhide and lower wieght it should survive. What do ya'll think, wanna takes bets on when she blows?        :scared:      :D

Lower limb

upper limb maybe

Looks long enough, Dano, or is that just the camera work?   If you got doubts, just rawhide it and I'll bet she's a shooter!

Well Calvin, I like Mark's advice, I'm going to put some rawhide on the back and go for it. It's a stave I cut last winter so I'm only out a little sweat.   :D

Yep it's 64", that gives me 2-4 inches of goof space.

no, no...I think it will blow up if he rawhides it.

(I dont actually, but think it makes for more entertainment if someone bets against you)  "[tunglaff]"

It should do just fine Dano, just put a good piece of rawhide on it.  One of these days (as soon as I as I can get a piece of snakey Osage) I will try one.  I love those snakey ones, they look GREAT!

C'mon Dano......little heat gunning and she'll be straight as a string ;-)

That looks like about 2/3 rds of the staves I've got stacked in the corner of my shop.....that's why they're stacked ;-)

Seriously though, the snakey 'sage I finished a few weeks ago also had a couple of ring violations.  I put some goat rawhide on it and it turned out pretty darned good.  Just covered the rawhide with a pair of diamond backs and nobody will ever know I couldn't follow the rings.....well, nobody except the whole darn trad-gang community!
