...we heated in 1 and three quarter inches of reflex with lard and a broil king. If we get time today, we might even take a stab at getting some sinews on her today.
...gosh this is hard.

That's not a breathe right strip.  It's itty bitty sunglasses for the Canadian itty bitty sun.

on with the bow.

there is the C-man (I already worked all the jokes there with that name, dont bother.   "[tunglaff]"  ) sorting out all his differant sized sinews into piles...this is all after we used a lye bath and a toothing plane to get the back ready.

Here is an idea of the reflex we BBQ'd into the stave...

Here is the CDog looking over our handiwork...

...and a close up of the "pussy mess" we are left with.

Home boy is into this project for about 15 hours at this point.

between you and me, this is gonna be a snappy little bow.

BTW, he casually brings out a bag from his pocket, it contains a perfect "shed" from his pet python that will fit the bow PERFECT. Being that the shed skin is translucent, we will dye the sinew with whatever pattern home boy decieds on, then put the backing on. then after we shoot it in real good (this is where the "I aint right part kicks in") we we glue on the BELLY SIDE OF THE SHED SKIN too.

neat idea, huh!!!  :)

Look Calvin.  I did a little zoom work on your mail on the table.  I would have stolen your identity but it's even worse than mine.   :)

Bow looks cool.  Sinew is magic.

Well Calvin.......I'll start by..." Looks like someone getting ready for the tax deadline"!

" Still referring to Hamm"?

" The balloon is the only remnant of the the New years eve bow"?

" Are those some of Barbies raw shafts"?

Yada,yada, yada!   "[tunglaff]"

Looks like you guys did a great job. WIll be watching intently!

FYI.I tried the "snake skin shed" backing just a week ago.I layed it down on a piece of raw osage. It dried almost translucent! Dying it might help a bit.You might want to do a test run first.

John, feel free to pay my bills brother.  :)

NG, we built all day on sunday. Going to start going back soon, havent been since Christmas. It will be SWEET to go back out.

I like the Jim Hamm book. I think I like the old Indian style bows most of all.

As for the balloon, you should know that they dont last more than a day or two. Ms. Thing (Hailey) loves balloons, and green is her favorite color.   :p

AZ, 3-4. we got a nice sinew crown right down the middle. These are a lot of work, but I like doing them.

John, you are a good Dad. Did any of yours get skared of boogers? Ms. Trad Archer Herownself (Hailey) hates boogers. Runs around screaming "BOOGER" whenever one might be in her general area. It's funny in a disturbing kind of way.   "[laffsmyl]"
