Thanks Tim, Dano Cal, John and Dave...and the rest whew!...LOL
John I do indeed intend to back her with rawhide. Per Dano's instructions I thinned the sapwood to around 3/16".
Damn knots keep appearing everywhere I take wood off...  :scared:
She's bending real good at floor tiller after working on her today, pic in a minute.

I got the pic's up...I was wondering if Yew guys think I should drill out and pack the Knots on da belly. They are crumbly at best and fair sized. I have decided to but would like another opinion.
She responded WELL to the heat gun being as thick as she still is. I will prolly go another round later. I hope to end up with a straight bow...I use that term loosely...LOL

What I've seen done is to use a thin, penetrating superglue on the knots, if they're small (about 1/16").  As you're scraping, they'll tend to end up sticking out, so you can use a file to bring them level with the surrounding wood every so often.

Sparky if they are soft in the middle I'd drill them out and plug the hole.  Have you got some by wood you could whittle a plug out of?  Loose fit.  Urac and plenty of heat, well say 90 degrees.  It's gonna try to fret on the edges of those knots.  If left low stress you might get away with them.  I have so little experience with yew, like none.

Sparky, I mean Knothaid   :bigsmyl:  I'd plug any knot bigger than 1/4", yew is pretty dense and can handle most smaller knots. I can see a bow in thar.

Keep after it knothaid.   Can't wait for the outcome.  Does osage dust seem to bother you or anybody else?

NG Osage dust doesn't bother me at all unless I really get a snoot full...then it's yellar booger pickin time....wooo hooo.
I got my horn...got her cut down.
Had some knots on da belly that was botherin me...so I plugged them. Took some cut-off's from my wood and made me some dowels and set them with good ol' loctite 420.
I think we'll be in bidness soon as she drys up and is ready for the long string.
Hope the SG holds.I was gonna use Urac, but didn't want to mix up such a lil' batch.
Not much progress...here's tha pics if ya wanna look. The horn looks good...Rod sent me a sketch on what one should look like...I got my work cut out for me.  http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sparkylongbow/my_photos

You'll be good on those plugs I bet.  Are they tight fit or loose.  I'd want a tighter fit with SG.  You can mix 2 teaspoon (to 1 powder) of URAC you know.  I do it all the time.

Getting that dang outer limb and then the horn down to little bitty is tough for me.  Mine seem to always wind up 9/16" at the transition and that's a little proud for all but yew, perhaps.

They're tight Dave...pounded em'in with a hammer..."lightly"...LOL
I think she will hold, least I hope. Going to the long string this week if I have time. Anybody know anything about MC with Yew. i would be intrested in knowing what to expect. So far she hass been in da house with me. it has been cold and my sinus's tell me it is dry in da house. I have no indication of the wood's age sept' he said it was this years offerings.

Sorry so long in da tooth...my time off is precious at 50+ hours a week, so I have to divide between work and play. I will get things going soon. Prolly not the best choice for a build-a-long because of the time constraints. I realllllly want this bow so I intend to make it happen.

Well...it's been a whil since I checked in on this one. I have her shooting and have glued on the horn nocks. She ain't the purties thang ya ever saw but she shore does draw sweet.
I cut her down from 73" down to 68" befor adding the nocks. Had a hard time getting a good fit with the nocks but I think they'll do for the first one...
No new picks except for the nocks...more to come.
