What about a colorful thread wrap? Just a suggestion.

From the initial looks of the pics might need a couple decorative wraps?  Down near the tips and at the handle, but another thought is a band of paint like a cresting in those areas.Would look real good in black.

I think the black electrical tape will be fine Timo.  I'd be happy to add that for the group if you'd like......I'll just grab another roll of tape off the rig just in case.    :D

Timo, did you shoot that carp?

From the length of those skins without head or tail fin it must have been a nice one.

Humm, I don't know about electrical tape, it may wanna shrink over time and cause other problems. A nice thread wrap, sounds good to me.

Dano... I think Tim was just going to use the tape to show how a wrap would look...   :)  Terry

I think a black wrap would look great, its gonna be my bow anyways.  :)  OOOOOORRRRRR you could use alternating white/black wraps in morse code and spell out "why-in-the-hell-am-I-alternating-these-threads-instead-of-just-using-black-fullstop"

LMAO.

Bow looks sweet boys. I am gonna like it.

Dano ya Ding Dong! :)

Got home early...(crappies biting ya know) and took some pics for ya to see what ya think.

I'm leaning to the black thread wrap on both ends. The pic shows(left to right) what the finished handle area would look like, with wraps...the tips (without wraps).... tips with wraps....and the finished bow with wraps..

Confusing? I hope it was for you Calvin.. :)

I have some fireline,in a dark color that would work great for this. It's not dark black like the tape, but will work fine.

what say yea?

Could do a wrap with watever fancy leather I use on the handle at the ends of the skins. Just brainstorming, but should the wraps, thread, leather or elec tape go on after the finish?

I think I kinda like the ends natural myself.  I think that when the wood darkens with age the contrast will dissipate a lot and the bow will have a very nice natural brown camo effect.  The tape just catches my eye too quick.  I guess it's a pet peeve of mine since I have to use tie on tree steps where I hunt and them danged black nylon straps show up from as far away as you can see the tree.  If it had to be wrapped, I'd tend to go with a more muted color like olive, brown, rust etc. but I'm trying to picture the bow after a year or two of darkening.

Shaun, don't know about using leather out on the limb....

As for thread, I'd expect it would be best to put it on before finishing so that it finishes over smooth kinda like a fishing pole.

Timo - just thinking on a future project of mine... How transparent are the skins? Ya think one of my goofy dye jobs would show through very well?

Tom, The bow of Timo's that I saw had VERY transparent skins on it.  The areas that made up the middle of the scales were nearly clear and as I remember it, you could actually see the wood through the skins.  Of course it's been quite a while but I definitely remember liking how I could see the wood under the skins.

Well, I got a bit of time today, and decided it was time to get this thing done.

I talked with Mickey last night, and had made the choice of black thread...well I got to thinkin today, and liked Daves idea of maybe a brown. So I did one of each. I went with the brown.I think they blend better with the leather work.

I left the tips natural,as I had a good transition in that area. The finish should make them melt in.

Big River,I'll send ya a PM and you can send your addy.

Tom, never put skins over a dyed bow,but I'm sure it would work. Not sure about how well the skins will show up.
