Joe's Bow - A (Short) Buildalong
« on: April 01, 2006, 10:30:00 AM »
Joe and I struck up a bargain.  A glass Ancient Spirits Kadiak Recurve for a Custom Osage Selfbow.  I hope my wood bow brothers don't kick me from the club  :)   This will be my first glass bow in 10 years.  I have shot a glass bow maybe 20 times total in my life.  After 10 years, I figure it's time to try something different.

Man Dave, I wish I was smart enough to have pulled off an April Fool's as good as that.  Nope, this is for real.  Shot Joe's bow a bit today.  Nice.  Got some tuning to do on the tiller and then the finish.  Maybe work on it tomorrow some.  Please don't hate me.  Do I still get into the osage killing fields...or rows?

Dano, say it ain't so.  You know I'm blaming this on Strubberg first and then Hackbow who also just got a glass curve.  Natural bowyery is dying off  :)

I figure once I get tired of arras flying like darts all the time and my groups being too tight to pull the arra, I'll be back for the fun of it again.  :bigsmyl:  We all come home eventually  ;)

Thanks George.  I've about got her done.  Tonight is final sanding and then the finish.  One of my better efforts if I do say so myself  :)

Dave and Dan, don't worry, I'm still making and shooting real bows.  Next up is my ambush bow.  Got to get it sinewed or it won't be done for the judgin'.  Not that I got a hope against some of these other things I've been seeing on here.

It always amazes me how you guys that work with wood bows have such good eyes for seeing just what needs to be done to reach a good tiller.

Very nice John...

ok what in the heck is this glass bow talk?

You guys are losing your souls.

Nice looking effort again John!

John I remember an April fools bow buildalong you wre doing a few years ago,. You said the bow broke while you were shooting it in and you got some stitches over your eye and let us get all concerned and sympathetic and stuff before you Aril Fooled us!

Great build along John.... It's been too long since ya posted one..... I've got several glass bows as well collecting dust....One was given to me by my brother... He picked it up at a garage sale.... I forget the make but it's over 30 years old and never been shot..... I'm probably more stubborn than smart but I've made a committment to get a Bull Elk with one of my self bows and won't shoot any of my glass ones until I do.... By the looks of things someone in my will may be the first to shoot the virgin B'day bow.....    :D   Terry

Thanks all.

Mickey, I was real tempted to do some sort of April Fool's thing again but I'm just too nice.  It's the kinder, gentler bowyer in me  :)

Terry, I was at the New "Bass Pro" outdoor world in Southern Indiana last week and saw a few glass bows.  I felt oddly drawn to them.  The compounds still don't hold any sway so I guess I'm not evolving too far.
