Nova Scotia Hare Hunt
« on: January 02, 2008, 10:07:00 AM »
I spent Christmas in Nova Scotia visiting my parents and managed to get out rabbit hunting with my Father and a few of his friends one day. Conditions were a bit tough, there was a lot of snow on the trees and low hanging bushes which made it difficult to see anything, but we also had fresh snow for tracking. We only managed to get 3 rabbits but we were chasing bunnies most of the day and everyone in our group (6 people) got a shot, so all in all I would consider it to be a successful day.

Here are pictures of the 2 rabbits I was lucky enough to get.

Nice trophy! Wish I was heading back to to visit my family.

I'm looking to get out bunny huning in the next few weeks (BC) myself. Great way to spend a day.

Chris,

What species of rabbit are those? Pretty good size. The prairie cotton tail is mighty small compared to those you harvested.

Acadian archer. Are rabbits still open in BC? I though they closed end of the year? Most of the rabbits I shot in BC were Rocky Mountain cottontails, and tehy are quite small, too.

R.W.  Those would be Snowshoe Hares.  The only wabbits we have here in Nova Scota.

R.W., yup they're Snowshoe hares as Eastern Fisher has stated, the only "Rabbits" in Nova Scotia. I think they're bigger then a Cottontail but smaller then a Jack Rabbit.

HeHe,
Don't know if I could bring myself to try and eat one of these lousey prairie jackrabbits. They just crawl with ticks and lice. Bleeegh!

Congrats on the bunnies.

I was out with a friend today for a litle over an hour. Didn't get too serious about hunting seen two took home one.
