I just finished up this one off version of my Huntsman Axe. These are my compact woods hawk/axe inspired by Norse bearded axes.
This one a I did something different which I think came out very cool. I gave it textured Wenge scales, with bamboo fiber cord wrap top and bottom. The wrap offers and grip in either a choked up or power grip and is epoxy soaked for extra durability.
It has three flared copper tubes as well structural epoxy holding the scales on. I gave the exposed copper tube a nice antique patina.
The steel I used for these is L6. It is an extremely tough steel that takes a wicked sharp edge, and I think it is suited very well for hawks.
I spring tempered the tang for additional toughness.
Here are the specs.
