Opposites attract

I'm not too sharp.........These are!
 
My first two helle blade knives.
Both are the harding blade. One has wenge and zebrawood with curley maple and cocobolo accent stripes. The other is ebony and cocobolo with yellowheart and black micarta stripes. Mike

Bodork -- aside from your beautiful handle work, the fact that your handles look "a little too large for blade size" reveals that you made them to use, not just to hang on walls. For field dressing there's nothing harder to work with than a big-bladed Bowie-style knife. Big handle provides the leverage and control we need. You know your stuff! A perfect combo of beauty and utility. I've done one Helle handle and it sure won't be the last, though they'll never be in a class with yours.

Beautiful work Mike. Got a question, I have the Harding kit and the metal shield part doesnt fit easily onto the notches of the blade. Do you have to file the blade a bit or is there a way to force it down?  :confused:

You would file the opening in the bolster to fit the blade, thats what I always do. Seems to work.

Mike,
Great job with the Harding blades. Unique style handles with nicely contrasting woods. The possibilities are endless. A person can make a hundred knives, all beautiful and functional, with no two alike.

Pete, Thanks for your comment about the size of the handles. In all honesty, I didn't want to use the brass nut at the end of the handle so I made the handle long enough to cover the tang without cutting it off. Anything else I did right was just dumb luck!
 Norbert, The first thing I did was cover the blade with masking tape for my own protection(two layers works-one doesn't!)then I placed one side of the guard into the slot on the blade and then firmly tapped the other side with a piece of wood till it went on. When I epoxied the wood blank on, I made sure the guard was still in the slots and firmly against the end of the wood.
 Chad, I just ordered two more blades and every one at work wants one so this may become a habit. Thanks for the wonderful product and prompt service!
