Extract short video from DVD?

I recently attended a traditional archery class and will get a DVD from it.  Does anyone know how I could extract a short 1-2 minute segment from the DVD so I could post it on the internet for other people to see?

If the DVD is not copyrighted with copy guard encoded on the disc you can pull the VOB files into an editing program and simply cut out the clip you wish to use. Render the clip as a wmv file and it will be ready to go.

If your editor cannot work with VOB files you can either purchase a VOB converter program or play the DVD in a desk top player and record the video directly into a miniDV cam through A/V cables. Capture the video (the cam will have converted the MPEG2 files to AVI) to your editor. Clip the section you want to use and render as a wmv file.

Since DVD video is encoded in highly compressed MPEG2, pulling video and rendering to another format will result in some loss of quality. Further compressing the video to wmv for use on the internet will further degrade the quality.
