Canon SX10is
« on: July 19, 2010, 03:39:00 PM »
If you are looking for a super zoom, this camera might be one to look at. Canon now offers the SX20is, which is the same basic camera as the SX10, but with RAW capability and HD video. Anyhow, here are a couple of examples of the focal range of these cameras.
First, at 28mm

Now, at full telephoto (560mm equivalent)

10 megapixels make for some sharp shots, too.

That first picture is FANTASTIC!

Now, saying that... what is "RAW"?

Tks for posting,

RAW is a format where the picture is not edited in the camera as a JPEG image is. It is used much as a negative for film is, as a 'raw' platform where the image can be adjusted by the photographer in the computer. It gives more options and a RAW image will not degrade like a JPEG. Most folks are happy with JPEG; RAW is more for pros and photonuts.

Got to tell  ya... my wife copied & pasted your top photo.  Now, it lives as a Desktop Screensaver.

I really like the Canon Powershot line of cameras.  I had an A630 which was great, and someone helped themselves to it from my hotel room.  I just replaced it with an SX200is.  Still getting used to it, but it has alot of the same features, but now with HD video, and has 12mp, and 12x optical zoon.

Great Pictures by the way. The SX20IS is on my future wish list.

stickbowhntr,
It has macro capablilities, something like an inch or less in the super macro mode. A lot of camera for the money.
This picture of a whitetail was taken from about 70 yards away with the full telephoto, handheld.

centaur-thanks for the reply on close focus. I have a nice Canon XTi and the lens I carry on it only goes down to min of 42" and close ups of plants etc hard...maybe just need new lens or micro adptr but a pockert type would carry nicer and the wife can use this one more often then...lol.
