Thought I'd add my 2 cents to this thread.  First of all, if you really want to get in shape, not just for today or next month, you must do something that you like. This means you will be more likely to continue the activity (because you like it) and hopefully make it a part of your everyday lifestyle.  You may mix it up and include some activities that you would not normally do or like (push ups until you drop, or run the mile in 8:00), but there must be some exercise that you consistently take part in that you can call your own, a favorite if you will, and make a part of your life.  Your body will let you know if you are being too hard on it and your mind will let you know if you are not putting in the effort. If you need further direction feel free to contact me.  If your interested in my training background, I'd be glad to tell ya about it.

I too am trying to lose weight. I did good about a year ago and lost 50lbs. but have since put half of it back on.

When I lost the first 50 it was rather simple.
Figure out how calories you eat in a day. You have to be very hoenst with yourself. When I first started I was eating between 4,000 and 4,500 calories with little exercise.

I went to eating between 2,000 and 2,500 calories a day with one day off a week and I started drinking adult beverages on Saturday only. I added three days of walking or riding a stationary bike for an hour each day and the lbs came right off.

It takes about a week for your system to get used to the amount of food that you are taking in, but all in all I am going to start right back on it this weekend after I finsh moving. I Have started witht the eating this week and the exercise will come next week.

NorthshoreLB:

Know the difference between being attacked by a "traditional" Great White Shark and a "Modern" Great White Shark?

A Modern Great White Shark will hit you from below at about 330 fps.

A Traditional Great White Shark is much slower and will typically attack you at about 180 fps.

We don't have the heavy great whites here, just the lighter Tigers, so the momentum even at high speed isn't too bad   :bigsmyl:    :bigsmyl:

I bought a new treadmill. Top of the line with all the darkside gadgets. The Dr. told me to go easy for the first few days. Not to over due it so, the 1st 3 days I've turned it on slow and watched it run for 20 minutes. Next week I'll go to 30 minutes!

Biggie, now that's good right there.. Man can I ever relate to that. Being about 80lbs over weight. I joined a gym thanks to my wife and her surprise for me.
Now I'm a few pounds heavier. bought a book that was recommended to me and gained another 5 lbs. My Dr. informed me I need to go to the gym and workout and the book needs to be read and followed.

That pic was yesterday in Pittsburgh - 68 degrees!  Yikes!  How do you like the natural reflex in the near end of that osage?  Her sister is a perfect match.

Not sure what happened to the first photo I posted.  ???  It was there...  I don't think it's too big.  I'm using photobucket.  Had a smaller photo disappear today from another thread.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong.  Anyway, I'll try again - this is my favorite workout station:

Some one asked about yoga.I highly recommend it. At 58 yrs. old,I`m 5'10" tall and 185#. I`ve never worked out or lifted weights. I`ve always had a physically demanding job. After retiring from 28 yrs. as a lineman, with a welding business on the side for 20 of those years I just kept on going with the welding business. Shortly before retiring I had noticed I was`nt as flexable, as agile or as well balanced as I thought I should be. A friend suggested yoga. I bought a dvd and a couple of books and jumped in with both feet. After a couple of years I took some classes. It truly has made a world of differance in my life. I am so much more flexable, with fewer joint pains and I just have a better overall feeling in my body. And there is no feeling of working out,you just get into a position and stay there for a minute, then blend into the next position. I do it for 30 minutes before bed and a 10 minute bedside session when I wake up in the morning. It really keeps me fit and energetic. My helper and I framed a 30X50 steel building today, thats hundreds of trips up a ladder. Without the yoga I dont think I could still do that much work in a day.   Bob

Well said Bob, sometimes the greater benefits come from the most unespected sources.
