Finally found an Appalchian recurve..WOOOHOO
« on: January 08, 2008, 12:47:00 PM »
I got home last night and found that my new baby had arrived......... Appalachian Elk Mountain recurve, 58" 62#@28, cocobolo riser and curly maple limbs. I can't believe how well it shoots. I can switch between my longbow, flatbow, and recurve and they all hit the exact same spot. Now, I just gotta find a TD recurve and one of the Little Laurel short longbows and I'll be set.

I love the appy's. Beechridge flatbow 63lbs at 28 shoot silky smooth

I curve take down on **** a couple years ago. I wanted it bad, but couldn't afford it at the time. It was a heavy bow too.

My first trad bow was a Middle Mountain 66" longbow (yep, still have it  :)  ) and I traded for a AA flatbow this past summer. There's just something about them that fits me to a "T".

First and only recurve I ever bought is this AA savage River takedown made in 1990.  57 @ 27. Red Elm and schedua.  I ordered it at the PBS banquet in Wheeling that year with the help of DirtyBill and have been shooting it since.

That looks like one heck of a sweet bow

Dirty Bill, you're right, I'd need a rightie.

Dave, after trying a lot of different bows, I still shoot the Appy's better than anything else. I'll keep on trading and trying out the others, but I figured I better get as many Appalachians as I can afford. Like land, they ain't makin' any more. Plus, I've wanted to try a static recurve with a LB style grip, and what better for me than one of Guthrie's bows. Now I just need to do some arrow trading so I can get something heavy enough to shoot outta this beast    :D

I have a similar bow, an elk mountain 64# with cocobolo riser and black locust limbs- I love this bow, and I could shoot it all day

No web address. Dave Guthrie was the bowyer and stopped making and selling bows back around 2000, IIRC. They come up every so often for sale, at least the Middle Mountain longbow and the flatbow models do. The Elk Mtn. is a bit harder to find, along with the Savage River T/D recurve. Personally, I'm still looking for a Little Laurel hybrid and a good Savage River to round out my set.

I got a little Laural that used to be "Dirty Bills" I bought from him a few years ago but I let a friends grandson use it and He wants first dibs if I sell it....It is only 40# ....If my friend isn't interested in it anymore I might let it go...God Bless, Keefer's <")))><

I spent a weekend up at Dave Guthries, Back in the late 80's. The big town of Ripley WV. He had a bow makeing class and I drove up and spent 3 days. Great time. That guy was a talented man. He had a bunch of bows for us to shoot and they all shot well. Always regreted not getting one . I still have all the tracings he let me do of his risers and forms. . Don
