BamaBows technically aren't Hill-style American Semi-Longbows.  They are built differently.  True they do brace to a D-shape like a Hill, but they are not deep cored or narrow-limbed like a Hill.  They are built more in the flatbow style.  Also the grip on the Bama is basically a reverse teardrop, with the belly side of the grip being wider, tapering more to a point on the backside.  Quite the opposite of the wedge grip that Howard, Schulz, Swinehart and others (including me) prefer.

I'm sure that many people will argue that this is all just semantics.  However there are specific differences in the design and construction of "flat" Semi-longbows and "Hill" Semi-longbows.  Those differences may be subtle, but they all add up to a very different bow.

That said, I owned a BamaBow and it was very nice.  Nate builds a beautiful bow.  Great custom work and a heck of a nice to guy to deal with.  Excellent bow for the price.

Some of them, yes. The Hunter model is nice, but some would not count them as true HH style bows. I do. But that's just me. [/b]
i LOOKED at their web page I saw one that might be , but I would say know . you need a stait limb , sting follow , or slight back set .No reflex /deflex . Persomally I think they all should have a strait grip , but alot of guy's would argue that ! anyway personaly the only real one's that I can think of are Hill,Sunset Hill,Northern mist,Dave Miller,Shrew Hill, Dave Johnson !  THESE ARE A FEW IN NO PATICULAR ORDER !  GOOD luck   Louie

Thanks all. I was talking about his lower priced models and not the one he just came out wit last year or so. They looked like they have straight limbs and I have seen them referred to as a Hill Style on here a few times, that's why I asked.

As for the grips, no way I could go with grips like you described, I prefer the kind of grip Mr. LaClair posted pics of on his Shrew Hill.

As for getting in touch with Nate, is he coming out with a TRUE HILL STYLE bow in a couple weeks?  C'mon, spill the beans.  Inquiring minds want to know!!

Thanks all for the help.

I almost forgot, the Dave Johnson bows are beautiful!   I never tire of seeing pics of his cedar bows. I would love to have one too!  He's a great guy to talk to and very helpful. He's got a website with contact info on it. It'll come up on Google. Sorry but I can't remember the address.

Yes. May take a little more than a couple of weeks though.

Hill style bows are getting to be a lot like 1911 45's. They are a proven tool thats been around a long time and it seems all the cool kids are going to be making them.

6" give or take. That's usually a good place to start on most Hill style bows.

I run my 68" ShrewHill at 6 3/4" brace. That's right about where it was when I got it from Ron.

Mr. LaClair,

I tried to follow the link, but could not find your post.  You sir, are kind of a hero of mine in the "Trad" deal.  I wish you many many seasons afield to enjoy the great outdoors; and to continue to inspire and mentor those of us coming up behind you!

Sincerely,
Kevin
Have a nice day!

Haven't had one of these in a long time... yep that's a busted nock.

10 yards in the basement working on form with my Schulz. Those arrows are all feathers touching. I wasn't trying to hit anything in particular. I am trying to focus on good form and doing the same thing consistently. Apparently I was consistent on that end of three arrows!
