Eric's bow really turned out great!  I shot it, he'll have to bring it to some shoots to show off.  It's like 70", I draw about 26 1/2", and still no vib!!  I was really impressed, he's going to help me glue one up!       I'm in the last stages of my first one, 68" backset Hill modeled after the Shrew Hill. I need to take about 10# off with sanding...

At Kalamazoo I checked out Steve Turay's, it's awesome to say the least. A guy was picking one up.  Beautiful and classy, soft yet thick, and a great size.  I suggest you check out his website, you'll be impressed.

Agreed .. the Northern Mist quiver is really great. Top shelf materials and workmanship. A good choice!

I bought a Northern Mist quiver and picked it up at Kalamazoo. Really nice thick leather but soft. The adjustment on the strap is leather ribbons not those rawhide shoestrings like I had on my 3 Rivers quiver. Reenforced bottom for broadheads. It will be hunting with someone after I'm gone.

The Art Vincent Quiver might cost More than a HH but the quality of workman ship and materials is the best bar nun. You get what you pay for. The stiching on the back side will not be a issure becouse of the stiching material. The stiching on the back side looks more professional than raw hide laced like a sneaker on the out side.

Well after shooting the loaned HH Deluxe glove for the past week and a half, I have decided that I really do like them.  I sent my order in to Craig and now I am awaiting my new glove.  I have also decided that my JD Berry Vixen must have some good voodoo in it, because I do not even look at my other bows, the Misty Dawn included.  There is just something about that Vixen that pulls me in.  

I often wondered what it would be like to find that bow that calls to you, and she is it.  With that said I did break away from the strightlimbed bow a and ordered a JD Berry Argos to try out.

I am tackling making my own string. So I went online to get a board jig print and my first two were short using their measurements, so my third was too long by my guess, on to the fourth and hopefully I found it

When I made my jig I used David Millers measurements that he outlined in his book.  It was dead on.  Brian the trick to a good string is putting enough counter twists in before making the second loop so you don't get cableing.

Thanks Chris. I did 8 counter twists on the individual bundles, and every 5th twist I'd re- separate the bundles. It's shooting good, now I'm just hoping I can use the 1" spacing to make the appropriate string for other length bows. Right now I have all 68" bows, but I have a 64" coming in a few months.

Chris, I just started making my own strings. How many counter twists do you put in yours. I think the last couple I made I put in like 10 or 11, but it wasn't enough.

I usually count the number of twists I make and that becomes the number of counter twists.

 Exaclty.  Or cound the number you take out when fixing the bundles from the first loop.

That's how I do it.

Counting the opposite (from loop join to fade towards string center) end twists is how I do it. I count one color. For me it's usually about 14 counter twists.

Ok so my Miller is my main HH.  I've also had the pleasure of a HH Big Five and Redman, but sold em both cause the Old Tom just can't be beat.  Of late I also have that silly Herter's Itasca longbow I've been trying to sell.  Tamed it finally with some rubber whiskers and a rubber grip wrap.  Feels like a snappy Hill bow now, like something with a good bit of backset.  I want an opinion-  the limbs on it are a bit wide and the grip superficially resembles a recurve grip, but really its more of a locator to me....could this thing be classified as a Hill style bow by you guys??  It's 68" and strings up a perfect D.

Well, it is cold and rainy here, I made up strings yesterday, I have the house to clean but I am desperately looking for anything else to do LOL and I got to thinking......... dangerous I know.  

In all 878 pages of this thread I do not recall seeing a single Great Northern Traditional longbow.  Why?  Have any of ya'll shot one?  If so how are they compared to say a Hill?  When I was looking into getting my first straight stick I kept going back to the GN site, but alas I never bit due to the lack of information about them.  So lets here it if ya'll have shot them.

new bow i just finished. Walnut handle with Osage veneers over boo. Important tip, do not build a bow and not have a string for it. VERY frustrating!
